Mayweather sr might have improved cottos defense and made an improvement on his already decent footwork.
He surely wouldnt have made him any worse.
Every fighter is different, and you need to have a bond with your trainer and respect him in order to really learn, regardless of what they may know. Floyd Sr needless to say is an utter loon and a lot of guys would probably rather have an Urangutan in their corner. Just my take at least.
Cotto says he plans to have 3 fights before retiring

Cotto is going to fight three more times and then call it quits.

Cotto should fight Canelo. If he fights him on the inside I see a long and uncomfortable night for the boy. To me Canelo just seems too robotic to keep Cotto from moving in behind that stiff jab and deft movement and once he's there I think Cotto just has too much experience and craft for him. As long as Cotto stays there and smothers him after he throws combos he should be relatively safe. If he pulls straight back out like he puzzingly did against Mayweather I see him getting caught right on the end of Canelo's punches. If he tries to outbox/punch him I see the same thing happening except he tires and gets pummeled into submission. Either way it would be an interesting fight.
Cotto is looking to make as much as he can before he retires. The big money fight for him is Alavarez provided he keeps winning. If Alavarez beats Trout and the Floyd fight doesn't get made then Cotto will be after that fight. He's not going to hang around to fight guys like Kirkland unless it's a tuneup for a big fight.
