Definitely. But it shouldn't be that way. These guys should bite the bullet, admit to themselves "Ok I have all this money, but I have no experience dealing with a ton of money and no credentials to manage it properly so I'm going to get help." And if they don't and go broke, they only have themselves to blame.

These guys are usually so fractured and insecure as people, and boxing makes up so much of who they are, that they can't cope with life after their careers. That's why I have so much respect for guys like Schmeling, who made the transition so well. And guys like Marvin Hagler, who retired, STAYED retired and moved on with their lives.

The less a person knows about money & the less they are involved in the decision making process the easier it is to rip them off. It doesn't just happen in boxing & it's not just a sports thing either. Look at some of the lotto winners.

Everybody needs a 2nd wind---Ali used to tire in the 4th, then again in the 9th, he needed a 3rd wind to finish long fights. Do you think Marciano would let him coast then?
Rocky did get tired he was a human being.

Ali would take rests in safe positions such as not within punching distance, whilst he is holding and during the minute breaks.

yes thats correct. ad nauseum as well. Lets see those old timers get away with that ad infinitum neck grabbing and neck pushing-down crap that Ali employed to the umpteenth degree and always got away with it. Let him push down on Rocky's neck---first of all it would be so low compared to Ali's height that he may not be able to reach down that far!---2nd of all, even if Rocky's neck was pushed down and grabbed Ali-style, Rocky would just crouch down even lower during the pushing-down, and really blast Ali's appendix out. Ali cannot fight like that. He is not a toe-to-toe guy. If Ali ever tried to go toe-to-toe with anybody he would have gotten bombed out and he knew it---thus the profuse dancing and acrobatics and grabbing and neck pushing-down, etc. Kill the time for 2 minutes per round then win the round with some stinging flicking jabs and maybe a few slapping left hooks and if you get lucky and watch this for 7 or 8 rounds you might see Ali throw some sharp overhand straight right leads.

Take round 1 vs the Big Cat. If I were the ref, I'd a taken a point after over 1 minute and 30 seconds of dancing like a fucking clown without throwing a single punch.

If you watch Ali against Liston and Foreman he attacked them right from the first bell. He wanted to gain their respect and show that he was not going to be intimidated. Watch them yourself. Ali was a monster!

Same with Cleveland Williams. Roy Jones Jr. in his pomp fought like that, 1st round land big & get their attention & establish dominance then just keep piling on points after that. Ali had trouble with the guys who wouldn't let him rest though & would not allow for him to relax.

I'm not talking about them getting their "Uncle Bob" or some promoter to look after them. There are established accounting agencies and advisers that deal with celebrities and athletes, that invest and handle money well and allow atheletes to retire and live well after their careers. Now these guys will cost more than some uncle, but at least you know you'll be taken care of. In most sports, a famous athlete going broke is the exception. In boxing it seems to be commonplace.

These guys want the 10 million dollar mansion because the 3 million dollar mansion isn't good enough. They want a fleet of expensive luxury cars. Investing money isn't as fun as buying that 4th Ferrari.

There's no excuse for it. They've seen guys like Tyson go broke after earning hundreds of millions of dollars. Get smart with your money.

Definitely, and that's the sign of a great fighter. Knowning how to conserve energy, when to grab a break, when to go full throttle and when to take your foot off the gas.

Big George was a shining example in his comeback. Big rolly polly 40+ year old outlasting the young guys.

Of course there's an excuse, you get guys who are broke as broke can be one minute & then flush with cash the next but you're saying they should be smart with something they've had no experience with...

How come every athlete and celebrity doesn't go broke then? There are TONS of athletes, celebrities, singers, actors, ect who grow up with nothing and strike gold. How come we don't see it more in other sports? When we talk about guys like Scottie Pippen and Curt Schiling going broke, it's an exception. It's shocking. When we talk about a boxer going broke, it's just the same old song and dance.

Ignorance is NEVER an excuse. You're talking crazy.
