These guys are usually so fractured and insecure as people, and boxing makes up so much of who they are, that they can't cope with life after their careers. That's why I have so much respect for guys like Schmeling, who made the transition so well. And guys like Marvin Hagler, who retired, STAYED retired and moved on with their lives.
The less a person knows about money & the less they are involved in the decision making process the easier it is to rip them off. It doesn't just happen in boxing & it's not just a sports thing either. Look at some of the lotto winners.
