right I'm not ashamed to say I am well and truly losing track of the state of the fight game - blame TV as we quite often don't get to see fighters these days unless you got all the channels.

Anyway I never seen Broner fight and I only seen Rees a couple of times.

    So my question

Rees is 10/1 - is he worth a punt or is this a ridiculous mismatch ??

    thanks

He is ten to one for a reason. Rees is not renowned as a puncher although he has stopped a few. His best hope will be to pile on the pressure and get right in Broners face, throwing plenty to the body and using his strength to make him uncomfortable on the inside, a bit like Hatton early on in the Mayweather fight, but we all know what happened there, and Broner can bang too, so Gavin is danger of being walked onto something if he is too gung ho. You never know but if you can get good odds on Rees still standing at the end of round twelve that may be more realistic and even that is a long shot.

If you're only getting 10/1 on him then you may want to take a look around and see what the other bookies are offering. I heard talk that the bookies over in the states have him anywhere up to an 33/1 outsider, but I doubt you'll get that from the bookies over here.

About 15/1 is the best I can find with a cursory glance on oddschecker.

I'd much rather see a Kostya on Judah chicken dance but it won't happen Im afraid.

Besides Broner might actually enjoy the simulated Brokeback Mountain moment Joe has pulled and who needs that

Yea was 19/1 with Pinnacle but money will come for him in Britain and will shorten the odds. If u had to have a bet and don't like short prices I'd take Broner on points at 13/2 instead of Rees to win. Personally I'm staying clear as I reckon it will be a first half stoppage and odds no goo here

The ONLY similarities are that Rees is from Wales and Broner is from the US. For a better comparison with a Welshman fighting an American, look no further than when Gary Lockett made the trip over to face Kelly Pavlik in 2008, and Kelly Pavlik blew him out of the water in three rounds. Like his trainer was when he faced the Ghost from Youngstown, Lockett, Rees is a good domestic-level pug, facing a world-level talent in Broner. The sole reason this fight is getting attention at all is because Broner is in it. Otherwise, it belongs on ESPN FNF. It's a total mismatch. It won't go more than 4 rounds. Mark my words.

Please don't take that as any disrespect for Rees. Credit to him. He's coming to the USA to fight a p4p-type fighter. He also seems like a good dude and hopefully he makes a pretty penny for this fight.

Also, Rees wan a world title. He has been world class. Lockett never was and whereas Rees has moved down after winning a world title, Lockett had moved up from light middle. Rees will not be the weeker man. He mit be smaller but Broner will be surprised at Rees strength!

Rees was game last night. Good for him. He had the strategy to beat Broner, and lost only on talent. He won the first two rounds on my card.

However, the comparison with Lockett and Pavlik was spot on.
