I wish James could be satisfied by teaching what he was taught! The moves he performs and the way he "thinks" in the ring are all but lost! The new trainers are from the 80s & 90s amatuer programs and thats a totally diffferent approach to boxing. Were losing the solid punchers and in their place its light hitting on the move counter guys that just don't bring any excitment. The kids from the old "block countries" are punching hard and sitting down but their work rate is very bad! The Russian Rocky had Timmy beat but he couldn't catch up enough times and when he did he couldn't pull off enough shots to finish Tim. Tim is a great conditioned athlete and thats what saved him along with his heart! Rusian needs more conditioning and he must improve his tempo, he knew how to cut the ring and he knows his punches but he's not mentally prepared to step up his training to achieve the high work rate that he needs. In the old days the LoMatta had their opponents come to then more often than the opponents do today. Runners back than could never make it to the semi's or main events if they weren't able or willing to bring some of the fight to their opponents. In the days were the "live gate" was all the reciepts there was NO " counter guys" around. If you want to fight to earn then you came to fight! Or get booed out of the ring.
Toney doesn't belong fighting but what else can he do? He has no other skills, if he could convey what he knows to young fighters he should be worth gold in a gym but can he teach? Will it satisfy him? Probably not, he's going out on his sheild its all he knows! Ray
