It's a peculiar self hate, if JMM fought Manny in Mexico city you wouldn't see Mexicans saying I hope Manny knocks him out.
That's because most Mexicans probably relate to and indentify with Marquez as one of their countrymen. Floyd Mayweather is a slimeball no matter where he's from and that's why people don't root for him, he doesn't want them to. Andre Ward is a fair case, except he's not exciting to watch and has terrible promotion. It's really not as "peculiar" as you like to think.
