It's a peculiar self hate, if JMM fought Manny in Mexico city you wouldn't see Mexicans saying I hope Manny knocks him out.
That's because most Mexicans probably relate to and indentify with Marquez as one of their countrymen. Floyd Mayweather is a slimeball no matter where he's from and that's why people don't root for him, he doesn't want them to. Andre Ward is a fair case, except he's not exciting to watch and has terrible promotion. It's really not as "peculiar" as you like to think.
Can you name one current American boxer who fans cheer? I guess you could say americans have no pride but I can remember when Americans liked American boxers, it's peculiar because other countries cheer assholes.
That doesn't really make sense. Floyd is the most popular fighter in America (probably the world) - unless you believe everyone buys his fights hoping he loses, which is ridiculous.

Broner is the new American hope already being paid millions.

They're arseholes but clearly loved by the general American boxing fan.

I think you would be surprised at how hated Floyd is in the USA.

Well the figures don't say that. For sure he's a polarising figure but it's predominantly Americans that have made him the biggest PPV seller in history and highest earning sportsman on the planet. He has over 4 million twitter followers, which is rockstar numbers for effs sake, and dwarfs any other boxer.

Maybe you're right though - The four million twitter followers all hate him and the 10 million PPV buyers, over the past several years, all did so to watch him lose

If you haven't seen how ESPN treats Floyd you would be disgusted, they called him a coward even did a chicken dance about him. Remember boxing is a niche sport in the usa a lot of people watch floyd to see the best and watch him lose.
