Well I usually enjoy his style. Clinching is a part of the game so I don't mind a bit of holding on the inside, and when he's using range and his well educated jab and right hand, I think he can be marvelous.

I don't have a problem with the way he usually fights. I don't expect him to fight stupidly to be more entertaining.

But in fights like Ibragimov and Povetkin, I think he was utter shit.

The Ibragimov and Haye fights were the worst. The Ibragimov fight was a great opportunity for him to break out in the States: boxing at the Garden. He was on all sorts of mainstream American media to promote it (I even saw him on Conan O'brien). He's big, he's well spoken, he's fucking a hot actress, he has the ability to bring interest back to the HW division in America... and then he fucking stinks out the joint. Even Manny Steward was pissed at how bad he stunk in that fight.

And of course Haye... ughh. I was telling all my friends who don't care about boxing to watch this fight, how it was gonna be so great, ect, and boom another stinkfest. I blame Haye just as much as him, but I wish he would step it up when it's important.

the sam peter 2 fight is another prime example

one of his biggest fans in this thread said it was a boxing lesson when in reality its was just like all the others

watch the first round, he holds 13 times i think i counted

he paws with the jab a bit with no intention, the number of punches he throws that he actually has any intent with (jabs or right hands) is less than the number of times he holds and leans

Well guys are going to clinch in boxing, and outside fighters like Wlad have a tendancy to clinch moreso whenever the fight gets inside. Floyd Mayweather and Bernard Hopkins have been doing it forever but they don't get near the shit the Wlad does.

To be honest I don't think it's a one-way street. Povetkin did his fair share of holding as well, and in a lot of fights Wlad's opponents come to "accept" being tied up without trying to fight out of it.

But Wlad is very gifted, he is exceptionally skilled, strong, and he hits very hard, so I get very disappointed when he doesn't put more effort into obtaining a finish early, especially in his biggest fights.

there is clinching in boxing but there is basing your whole strategy on clinching

without the clinching wlad would not still be champion

hopkins does it yes, not anywhere near the level of wlad but he does

provetkin didnt do his fair share of holding, we must have been watching a different fight, he certainly did his fair share of being held

the opponents do accept it yes and its an absolute shame that they have to

wlad is tallented, but his stock is far and above what it would have vere have been if he was made to fight within the rules and the level of corruption wasnt there around his fights

in his second reign as champ which fight has not consisted of the same script as the fights you mentioned above?

wlad is very good at holding, and when he does he is very good at leaning and sapping the strength of his opponents, this wins him the fights, its no surprise to me that the 2 best fighters he has faced have fought on the back foot and done everything they can to avoid the clinch, because IMO is the only way to beat him

thats kind of fair enough apart from holding being against the rules, grappling is one thing, still bending the rules but holding and leaning?

and which fights are we talking about that havent been like those two fights?

    i cant think of one

the haye fight he was probably at his most aggressive, he still excessively held round after round and the ref let him do it
