Because the media (HBO in this case ) are trying to make it into a big deal . All I've ever heard Golovkin say is that he wants to clean up the MW division, the problem is no-one will fight him. He's 5 foot 9 inches tall, giving away Height , Reach and Weight and trying to carry his power up to a naturally much bigger guy with a granite chin. If I was Froch, I reckon I would fancy that as well. What the fuck would be the point in that fight?

All Hearn had to do is make Froch an offer he couldn't refuse, and this was made easier because under IBF rules the Champion was entitled to 85% of the Purse. All these occurrences will never happen again, and the problem is that Froch will never earn anywhere that money again so it's naturally hard to motivate yourself. here's some examples of what he'd probably earn for certain fights.
Chavez in Vegas - £2 Million tops (don't forget that's $3.5 million)

I don't know about the whole $8MM per fight claim, but the bottom line is that Junior is the biggest fight for Froch right now. On paper, he's the best in terms of risk/reward. He's the biggest in terms of name value here at least here in the states. Only hardcore fans know who DeGale is here. I have a hard time believing that a DeGale fight would pay Froch more money than a Junior fight if the fight is on PPV. Junior sells out big stadiums and has been on a successful PPV before where he was the A-side. The Mexican fan base would be rabid for a fight between Junior and Froch. They'd sell out a stadium in Texas or Vegas.

Groves beat DeGale and DeGale hasn't avenged that loss. I'm not sure what a DeGale win does for Froch. I can understand why he wouldn't want to risk his legacy for it.

The reason there's more money for the Degale and Groves fights is because he gets 75-85% of the purse! whereas Chavez wouldn't have that, Chavez would probably want a 50-50 split. But I do think Froch means it when he says Chavez or nothing.

the funny thing is that this is so blatantly obvious, yet many people dont see it. it seems that there are a lot of people that still try to defend chavez as if he really is a top contender.

i dont mind this fight for froch's sake since he has earned being able to fight in vegas. its a perfect fight for him. he gets to fight in vegas and make good money by fighting a big name who isnt very good. he will look impressive because of that.

I really like this fight in Vegas. It's huge. I favor Froch big time in a way, but Junior has a world class chin. I can't recall when's even been buzzed before, let alone knocked own or out. Of course, that could be due in part to his competition. Strangely, he'll be the bigger man than Froch on fight night. I think it's a fun, interesting fight. I'm all for it.

If Froch wins, I must say I like the idea of GGG against Froch in the UK. In terms of legacy, I don't really see the need for Froch to have another strong domestic win against the likes of Groves/DeGale. If Ward is still out of the game, Froch against GGG might be the best at 160 against the best at 168.
