Unfortunately it was to a black colleague. Luckily being in the room with me they knew the tone and intent and racism wasn't even considered (except in my head when I winced a bit when I said it). I say it to white people fairly often.

I think someone else said it best. You don't personally know Brock well enough to accuse him of being racist. He's obviously well-traveled, which as someone also said tends to discourage or minimize racism.
