1998 - simeone went through the back of beckham at high speed, should have at least been booked, then becks leg travelled 6 inches, that ref had a history of aweful decisions including sending offs

and even then we scored legitimate golden goal which the same shocking ref ruled out

so yep, shocking sending off and refereeing display as a whole

Simeone should've been booked and if Beckham hadn't petulantly flicked out , he would've been. But it doesn't change the fact that Beckham had to have a red. Come on Eric, we've seen guys get reds for "touching" people's faces with their heads, way less intent than that . And a goal that should've stood. That's the whole sum of England's bad luck over 50 years is it?

i don't agree, there are plenty of occasions when people lash out a lot worse than that and don't see red and with the magnitude of the game

it was a shocking sending off and the fact that simeone wasn't even booked make it clear the ref was incapable, only defeatist englishmen would disagree, and then the golden goal?

theres a fine line of lucky and unlucky that wins a major tourney and England haven't had it

carvalios stamp on rooney in 2004 was just as bad as rooneys stamp on carvalio in 2006, rooney is sent off carvalio isnt

I do not know why Coleen his wife got offended by her husband being criticised and her 6 year old son having to hear it on radio. Rooney has done far worse to embarrass his family.

I'm not really a big fan of football, still less the self-entitled, arrogant chavvy mediocrities that have played for England in the last 15 years or so. Wealth and status way beyond they deserve, a sport run by a greedy and corrupt gerontocracy and with 'fans' too stupid to realise exactly how much they are being ripped off and played for fools.

Rooney was a good footballer when he was younger (not a great one, and not one who would have walked into many top international teams). He made lots of mistakes along the way, but he had matured into a quite a selflesss team player and he seems to be reacting to his ageing quite gracefully.

Still, he was just another hugely overrated player playing in the worlds most overrated club and international teams.

Rooney really was great for a few months around euro 2004 time, he was hugely impressive in that tourney, then he goes and scores a hat trick after being out injured for months with his broken foot on his debut for man united, in the champions league too.. amazing. He never really improved from that though. I don't think he has been overrated, well except in his teenage days but to be fair he was playing up to the hype back then, he has had a pretty great career, top scorer for england he could end up being man uniteds all time top scorer too, scored in a champions league final too, I guess his performances for england in major tournaments have been a disappointment since 2004 though, although he was lacking fitness in 2006 due to an injury before the world cup and england have been pretty poor since 2004 so it's not all rooneys fault.

Not for one second do I have sympathy for Rooney or any other overpaid and overrated footballer, but please don't try to tell me that apart from the snidey remarks you made, you can't understand why a Mum would be upset that her 6 year old son is basically Hearing his Dad being called a cunt by people .
Rooney takes a lot of shit considering he's been England's best player of the last 15 years. But hey, I don't pity him.

I thought he was being labelled old and past it. 6 year old can know that.
