    Apparently it has now happened

68 flats have been purchased by the City of London Corporation in a deal brokered by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).
The newly built homes are in two affordable housing blocks are on a site where private homes are on offer from £1,575,000 to £8.5 million.
The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) said the "expectation is that these new properties will be offered as one of the options to permanently rehouse residents from Grenfell Tower".

    And yet there is outrage

As though people would be happier that flats were left empty and those affected were left to sleep on the street and add to the numbers of homeless.

This sounds exactly like what we sometimes see in the States. Its the 'not in my backyard' attitude only now you're dealing with people on mass. I've been on both sides after disaster and have watched high end neighborhoods rightfully in my opinion object to trailer cities being set up for temporary housing within the property and can't imagine a government agency just handing out keys to houses next door. People can be veeeery upitty when it comes to devaluing, as they term it, neighborhoods on whole and I honestly don't think the instance over there is based on the individuals but more so one thing..money! Are these proposed flats already owned by others or is the Government purchasing them for victims? The elephant in the room may be race or religion for a sad arse some but I know for a fact that often the term 'temporary housing' very much becomes permanent housing. The official sighted there may have been better to focus on 'local' properties near the victims location, sounds like he said that was option b , firstly and try to keep them oriented with families, friends, transportation and jobs etc rather than basically bus them over to totally unfamiliar living conditions. I'm not trying to be flip and speak from first hand experience but sometimes it's setting victims up for a longer recovery or fall to just transplant them into a totally foreign living condition and surroundings. I mean shit are those silk curtains? And to be honest some people trying to recover don't want to lay their head next-door to some judgmental fukwit who may look at you as second class citizen.
