Short answer: he became the bad guy and half the people want to see him lose and the other half like to root for the bad guy.

It's a bit dumb if that is the case because he always handpicks his opponents. There is seldom any intrigue or mystery about the outcome. In the last decade you mostly get what you expect except in the case of Maidana who really came to fight. I mean the very idea of paying 100 dollars in the faint hope that a boxing financier gets sparked has to be a symptom of mental illness. Most proper fans seem to get that it is nonsense and many are boycotting it, but for an ordinary person who doesn't know a lot about boxing to be paying 100 dollars to see Mayweather fight a novice....well it somewhat suggests that the idiocracy is in full swing. It is disgusting what these two are earning as compared to the other brilliant fighters out there who do not cut corners or look for easy options.
I think it's different in the UK his fights are pretty much always exclusively on Box nation so we don't have to pay any extra for him.
I've never had a problem staying up until 6am to watch him fight, would I pay £100 for the pleasure though, not a chance, would I pay £20 for the pleasure, chances are that I wouldn't unless it was actually a decent match up.
Will I pay for him and Conor? Nope
Most of Floyd's recent fights have been on sky and box office platform not box nation. He is an overpriced woman beating illiterate lucky prick who could never carry a fight off his own back, he needs a big opponent to sell big because he is not exciting and has no punch power.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
Come on @Master, "he needs a big opponent"? The reason for that is the he is a "big opponent"! You want it both ways, he needs a big opponent, yet he's a cherry picker!
And how many of these "big opponents" that he's met in his career have beat him?
YOU are the main reason Floyd attracts so much attention and consequently the money that goes with it! It's not rocket science, even A prick like Broner has worked it out!
After losing on Saturday, the first thing he said (after the customary thanking of God , naturally) was , to the chorus of boos, " I would like to thank everybody, fans and those that hate me, because you're the reason I get paid these big amounts of money."
Says it all.
couple of reasons Floyd attracts so much attention
he's a complete cock and most people want to see him beaten
and for a period he was the only real elite American fighter, least the only one that had an continual interest and that fought regularly
Officially the only saddo who has had a girlfriend
I believe that was PPV, so that means 2 PPV fights in the UK in 10 years and 9 that have not been PPV
When you consider that Hatton was the biggest star in the UK at the time and Mayweather v Pacman was the biggest fight in recent years its Not too bad if you ask me @Master
^Right there is why Floyd is so popular. Desperate delusional hate. And these types are so desperate they will always pay.
If these people could just say "he's damn good but he bores me" they could win. But they can't win because they need their delusion "Floyd can't sell" they hate the man. This means Floyd has established an emotional connection to these people. There are countless studies about how humans are programmed with a fundamental need to be right. Ever got into a fight with a significant other and later realized you don't even really care about what the fight is about? This is what Floyd has done. He's made a bunch of irrational girlfriends out of fans. If they can't be honest, they are so connected that they are willing to lie to themselves and others, he's got them. Because deep in the brain these people have a need to be right and a need to see it.
Floyd can't sell. A person was willing to write that the greatest selling boxer of all time, and by a wide margin, can't sell. You could spread delusion like that on toast.
Yea you have the so called 'haters' who tune in hoping to see him lose, it goes the other way too with the fan boys who support a him through thick and thin. Race plays a part. Even tho Floyd is not an ideal role model; a brash, unbeaten, successful athlete who calls the shots appeals. There have been so many factors over the years that have kept is name relevant, WWE, DLH, Pac etc.
Whole swathes of society worship the money, bling and bitches lifestyle, he's basically a star rapper/pop star except a boxer. And, as he's proven, if you repeat enough that you're THE BEST EVER eventually it will become accepted. Boxing/MMA/General News/Sport - all you ever hear is "Floyd is TBE, '0,' '0,' '0,' '0.'" Even boxing pundits that don't believe it parrot it for the media.
Ironically, 15-years-ago, if Castillo got the decision - as most people think he should have - this whole Floyd shtick doesn't even exist. Amazing. (not saying Floyd wouldn't have been a modern great, just not the current celebrity incarnation as we know it).
3-Time SADDO PREDICTION COMP CHAMPION.
because 99% of humanity have an IQ under 90
