I don't think that is for no apparent reason though. That is good presentation. Makes the meal more enjoyable for whoever you are making it. Same with the specific spoon and pan. We have a flamby pan simply because it got taken camping and burnt on the fire so now it saves me ruining the others when I am running around like a cross between a headless chicken and the Swedish Chef from the Muppets.
