I agree these are a good interview series by Ring. However, I do think that the fighters tend to give answers that make them look better than they really were and excuses for their losses.

Junior Jones best victory was against Barrera but Canizales is definitely second as he was a brilliant boxer who was an outstanding champion. He also beat Tom Johnson which I forgot.

Paul Ingle should be on the list somewhere as he got knocked down by Jones and stopped him in 11. It was an exciting contest that I stayed awake for as I waited for Lennox Lewis to flatten Michael Grant.

So now you’re telling junior Jones who should and shouldn’t be on his list!

I was a big Junior Jones fan and was shocked when he lost to John Michael Johnson. That fight for me was eerily similar to watching Kevin Kelley lose to Alejandro Gonzalez- I thought both were shoe ins/locks for top p4p fighters. There were so many talented and exciting guys at those lower weights in those days- Tom Boom Boom Johnson, Kevin Kelley, Kennedy McKinney, Mark Too Sharp Johnson, Freddie Norwood, MAB, Morales, Naz…etc. I didn’t relish or appreciate the 90s enough- I was spoiled and took the talent for granted.

Poison and McKinney were so similar- long, lean guys with HUGE rights and greet boxing skills. I feel like Junior Jones may have suffered from anxiety though, as you could tell he was in excellent shape and had trained hard but would gas in tough fights (Morales, McKinney, and Johnson as examples). He had Barrera’s number though- after he realized his right could land and do damage the stress came off and he fought really well. I miss those days…

I am saying he is deliberately ignoring Ingle because he lost to him and it is easier to mention fighters he beat causing him more problems because it makes him sound better than he was.

You could well be right. But you know what? He won’t give 2 shits what you think. x

These series of interviews do tend to get fighters talking up their victories unnecessarily. Glad he mentioned Eric Morales beating him too.

A lot of these are like that and it's a good chance to give the old top dogs a chance to reflect and shine. In fairness of course you're going to pop up hall of famers over a respectable Ingle but at time unknown (Stateside), and who honestly wants to reminisce on being ko'd in your own hometown . If he's being completely literal he might list 18-18 "Nightmare" Pinckney as the harder one punch hitter over Barrera as he was torched .
