Re: Ryan Garcia v Emmanuel Tagoe
I like Garcia. It's hard not to. He's one of those. So far he's backed up his boasts. The win over Campbell was a good one. Good name, great pedigree. There are tougher tests ahead for sure but so far so good. We just have to accept that the social media side of things is the new norm. He's good at that too.
In a sport of machismo there is and will be for some time a stigma attached to any weakness, especially an apparent weakness of the mind. I've said it many times but we will accept a physical weakness, we won't suffer a mental one. Glass chin? No problem. Iffy stamina? Meh. Mental illness?!?! Not having it. You better be ready to fight at all times. If not, you're less of a fighter, less of a man and it's only a matter of time before that weakness manifests itself in the ring. Maybe, maybe not. I don't know what his mental health issues are but I'd imagine they aren't boxing related. Once you step over the white line, or the first bell or whistle goes, a different mentality takes over and you get to be freed from those demons. You'd better be anyway, or you'll be freed from consciousness.
Again bigger tests to come. Bigger punchers. But he literally took his crisis moment with Campbell on the chin and came back fighting. So far so good.
When God said to the both of us "Which one of you wants to be Sugar Ray?" I guess I didnt raise my hand fast enough
