That's true. We all use the nicknames, as a matter of fact. But one thing is for you, I, or the media (in talk shows or some opinion pieces) to refer to GGG, Loma, Canelo, etc...... and it's quite another thing for a media publication to only refer to Canelo by the one name in a p4p list, regardless of whether they're doctoring a list from another source (The Ring, in this case). It's not a professional look, IMO.

    That's my only point.
is it just the pound for pound list you have an issue with using the nickname? i seem to remember for ggg v ryota the fight posters saying ggg v murata

In the p4p list, Canelo was the only one with just the one name/nickname. Everyone else had their first and last names. Why the different treatment of Canelo? Even when Ginger was #1... The Sun used the one name only. So it's something The Sun is prone to do. Why?

Fight posters are pretty much publicity... and fighters will be referred to in all sorts of different ways.

I personally object to The Sun's annoying habit of treating Ginger under "one name status"... and IMO it's unprofessional. He's certainly not a GOAT... nor is he more deserving than any of the other guys on the list.

you would have to ask the person who put together the list & images for their reasons. i wonder if when they had ggg listed if they listed him as ggg

    Here's a Sun listing from Nov 2019.

They listed him as Gennady Golovkin, although I see at the time they listed Ginger as Canelo Alvarez. Which technically isn't even his real name. It's Saul Alvarez. But Canelo's fine. Few would recognize him as Saul anyway.

He just loses names on the sun lists, give it a few more years he'll be further down the list and they'll be referring to him as "Can"....which could end up being fairly accurate

so i can only assume it was a fanboy that put the recent image together. i think canelo alvarez is acceptable but i agree if i was putting together a list of people i would use their real names or the names they are introduced with in the ring

If your using the names they're announced as I'm ring, imagine if Apollo Creed made the list... they'd run out of room pretty quick.

    3. Apollo the Dancing destroyer, the king of sti......

There is the obvious problem of him being a dead fictional character of course.

Never really thought of it but yeh that's the way he's listed in The Ring also. Guess it could be a little fawning. But we all knew the favoritism with The Ring some years ago when Fishnets got involved. Still though..absolutley no one in his corner when he was trailing badly to Bivol was calling him "Canelo". It was Saul, Saul get your head out of your arse! One thing for broadcasters and network fanboys to try and be a wanker hipster and abbreviate to nicknames. Remember they would go overboard with "JuanMa". That drove me nuts. Mans name is Saul should be listed as that.

what i mean is like say jesse rodriguez, instead of his real name jesse franco. i would list him as jesse rodriguez, as that what they announce in the ring

I was just joking, I just thought of rocky four then and Apollo's massive list of names. I'd have no problem with big Wang going on a list as Srisket Sor Rungvisai even though that's like a supermarket sponsor's name :S.
