I agree completely it was my favourite film of last year along with the Prestige.
As you said the violence in this was shocking for its realism. When their car was ambushed and the woman shot it was far more shocking and brutal than anything Eli Roth or Quentin Tarantino could ever hope to muster as the scene just felt so raw and real.
My favourite bit was when the ruined buildings were being shelled and they staggered out with the baby and the whole army was just stunned into silence.
i must admit to getting a little bit teary eyed at that moment.
Awesome flick, should have the Oscars for best film and best cinematography but I won't begrude Scorsese finally getting some much overdue attention.
