    Default Children of Men

    Anyone seen this?

I'm a big fan of dystopian fiction and always felt that there has never been that great movie like 1984 was for books. Well...Children of Men is that movie. Not that it can be compared in any way to 1984, I mean it is an action movie but it is one of the most well done movies I have ever seen. In fact, I'm going to go ahead and say it's one of the greatest movies I've ever seen.

The cinematography is absolutely crazy, right from the get-go, the movie is real. The action is the realest I have ever seen, it is totally real. They used as few of cuts as possibles and the effect it gives is absolutely insane. You would have to see it to realize what I'm talking about but the continuity of it is marvelous. The takes never stop, they keep on going and it makes the film.

The story is based off the book. It's a world where women became infertile and a baby had not been born in 18 years. The world has basically gone to complete shit and England closed it's borders and sent all illegal immigrants to refugee camps. The world they create for the movie is awesome, it really feels like a future apocalypse.

Clive Owen stars, he gives an awesome performance and on the DVD says it was the best movie he's ever been apart of.

Awesome flick, MUST SEE for anyone.

I agree completely it was my favourite film of last year along with the Prestige.

As you said the violence in this was shocking for its realism. When their car was ambushed and the woman shot it was far more shocking and brutal than anything Eli Roth or Quentin Tarantino could ever hope to muster as the scene just felt so raw and real.

My favourite bit was when the ruined buildings were being shelled and they staggered out with the baby and the whole army was just stunned into silence.

i must admit to getting a little bit teary eyed at that moment.

Awesome flick, should have the Oscars for best film and best cinematography but I won't begrude Scorsese finally getting some much overdue attention.

What a film it is indeed
Love both those scenes you mention. But also the ''ive got a clear shot! Can i shoot him?'' scene is pretty cool for the same reason.

Haha, completely agree with The Prestige. Actually, my friend who is quite into movies, made me take Children of Men after I was already borrowing The Prestige to show my mom. I'd never heard of the movie which is crazy because it was so great and obviously had to have quite a budget.

And the scene with the baby is probably one of the most memorable scenes in movie history for me. The power in that scene, especially early on where people are risking getting hit by bullets to catch a glimpse of the baby is absolutely amazing.

I'd equate the symbolism of the baby to that of Jesus Christ walking into a battlefield. It was truly beautiful.

I agree, it was the realest movie ever. That first explosion, when he makes it out of the cafe is awesome. It's how I would think a real explosion would look. You won't get a giant fireball with cars being lifted and a main character running into it, you'll get that.

Great great movie that I really can't heap enough praise onto. CC.

Also liked that scene JimBoogie. Another one being the bus ride.

Actually the whole movie was great, to many to mention. Hated to see Jasper go

And the film had a whole bunch of individual touches that I liked. One of my favorites being the giant suspended pig in London. Really cool touch that added to the illusion of the future just being a fucked up place.

    Children of Men

In 2027, in a chaotic world in which humans can no longer procreate, a former activist agrees to help transport a miraculously pregnant woman to a sanctuary at sea, where her child's birth may help scientists save the future of humankind.

I think he was touted as a James Bond at one point

I wasn't a fan of this thing. From the previews and a breif descirption of the flim from a friend of mine, I had no interest. From my understanding things aren't explained very well. Circumstances are emphasized but I've heard its never truely explained why things got to that point.

Well, the reason why the world is infertile isn't ever really explained except in a short little joke Michael Caine's character made. Gamma rays and pollution were given as two possible causes but the exact cause is not known and I don't think the governments really care to know in the film.

Oh they wanted to know, they just didn't make their desire to find out the truth of this thing public. That is if this thing was based 100% off of the future of this current world.
