This thread should not be taken as a dig at Floyd, but more a dig at the WBC who I'm afraid stack up with all the other sanctioning bodies as a fucking joke. I don't care if Floyd is #1 P4P, there shouldn't be a rule for one guy that is different from the next.

That's exactly the point of this thread. Wheather or not it was the same with DLH or other big stars is irrelavent. It don't make it right. WBC, like all other sanctioning bodies should force their champions to defend their titles. At least one mandatory a year. And if Hatton was made to be Mayweather's mandatory, fine even though I don't agree with it, but that means Mayweather has to fight a Welterweight contender before the year is up or vacate the title. Given that he is facing DLH in September, I don't see this happening.

As for Berto, I think by the end of the year he will be ready to chalange any of the top Welterweights. Not saying that he will beat any of them, just saying that he has proven he can dominate at the level he is now, so he should step up to the top contender level and fight guys like Clottey, Collazo, Gomez, Judah and by the end of the year he'll be ready to face guys like Margarito, Williams, Quintana, Cintron, Mosley, etc. In 2009 he should be able to chalange for a title if not have one already.

Sort of irrelevant to this discussion, but the thread got me thinking:

When does a boxer become 'mandatory'? I'm assuming that it is not enough to 'merely' be ranked #1, usually you have to win an eliminator as well. Isn't that correct?

(To take an exampke, then Froch is currently rated #1 by the WBC, but I assume he is not being labeled 'mandatory' before he has beaten #2 Inkin in the upcoming eliminator).

In other words, had Berto not specifically won a WBC-eliminator, Floyd would just need to make a defense against anyone in the WBC top 15, right?

No offense, but you're quickly establishing yourself as one of the worst members of this board.

I think you've replied to about 5 of my posts lately, and I'm still waiting for the first reply that actually contains something of intelligence and/or substance.

    Floyd is a FRAUD.

    He almost had me fooled.

    Money Mayweather is counterfeit.

    I like that saying.

    Counterfeit Mayweather Jr.

I really do not buy into Mayweather having to fight Zab Zudah after he lost to Baldimor. Any justification to that fight was lost when Zab got beat and it cannot be justified.

However, it is being justified Mayweather having to fight Baldimor because he was the lineal champion, Oscar because it was a huge legacy fight, Hatton because ….he was undefeated? light welter champion? held a version of the welter title? You get my point, you can justify anything including not fighting Cotto, which is plainly ridiculous because he has beaten better Welterweights than Mayweather and deserves to be recognised as the best at the weight.

So in conclusion, to claim Floyd as the best P4P in the world when he is not the best at his own weight is simply wrong. It is plain to see Mayweather has avoided the best Welters in the division.
