    Default Emmanuel Steward: Hypocrite?

Just a thought, Manny has blasted Floyd time and time again, saying that the fact that Floyd is not a great fighter because great fighters always look to finish and never coast to a decision.

But yet he was encouraging Wlad, a 6'6'', 240lb guy with two sledgehammers for fists, to coast to a decision and not take any risks against a guy who most people though was a lamb waiting to be slaughtered.

    What gives?

I think I remember Manny encouraging Him to go for a knockout In the late rounds (10 or 11)?Really was odd with Wlad apparently winning the rounds.

I don't really think so...he was urging Wladimir to end the fight but Wladimir in the ring was obviously sensing that Sultan was waiting to slip and counter the right cross.

Manny believes Wladimir should KO everyone he fights and honestly he's correct but Wladimir is a smart fighter and he's not going to rush into something that can backfire on him.

Floyd has multiple fights like Wlad had with Sultan....he's known for his skill but also for running away and show boating and it takes away from how many view how great Floyd is.

I think manny said something to the effect of, "you have to end this, it isn't going to be good if it goes the distance."

I've thought about this a bit recently... And honestly, how is Wlad a smart fighter? He's a damn good fighter, but cautious is more the word I would use.. It isn't smart to do the bare minimum you need to and rely on your jab endlessly to set up the right hand.. If he were really a smart fighter, wouldn't he be looking to set traps, feint, mix it up a little? I think he has a very low boxing IQ personally, he just posseses physical advantages over basically everyone he fights that ensure he will always be able to work behind the jab.

I also challenge you to name ONE Floyd fight that was even close to as boring as Wlad-Sultan. THe baldomir fight was probably his least exciting, but he still threw a variety of punches, showed ring generalship, and committed to the straight right whenever he could. If Wlad had(or was able to) employ half of his technique against Sultan he would have had the KO EARLY.

Floyd knew he had someone in with him that had slow hands and no power at that!

Wlad is a smart fighter BECAUSE he uses his size to his advantage, he did not use to do that in fact THAT got him beat vs Sanders, he was almost in a crouch for that fight....dumb for a guy his size. He has more strategy and he doesn't vary from it, he doesn't need to as no one has proven it ineffective.

You can't argue against him being a good fighter....he may not entertain you but people said the exact same thing about Lennox Lewis

Manny knew with all the hype and it beign a HW fight that anything less than a KO was going to be reviewed very critically (right or wrong). Manny was right however.

Manny was all over Wlad to KO Sultan, but Wlad was Wlad and fought scared...The only thing that Keeps Wlad from being an ATG is what lies between his ears and deep in his chest....

I'd give you bad rep if I knew how. The whole reason for this thread is completely wrong. You should at least change the title and acknowledge that you weren't listening.

Manny is not a hypocrite he never said Wlad is great. He used to urge Lennox Lewis to go out and knock people out but because of his cautious nature he made sure that they were completely spent before he went for the KO.
