Just found a recent interview where Ed Soares, Silva's manager, is talking more about the fight with Jones:
ED SOARES: "I THINK ROY JONES WOULD BE THE PERFECT OPPONENT!"
This sorta thing reminds of that film baseketball..were they start mixing sports..we'll have boxing mixed in with soccer punching eachother out or nfl playing baseball tackling the guys trying to get you out or whatever...Do they really need to swap sports to generate interest?? why don't roy jones just go up against a decent boxer at his weight so people will watch that...rather than going to mma and fucking about up there....mental if you ask me.
"It wasn't the night of the jab"
roy would kill him
I'd still watch it though
I don't necessarily think Roy would kill him.
Have any of you actually seen Silva box before? I mean seriously box before? I'm not talking about that footage of him sparring Big Nog or any footage of him floating around on YouTube. I'm talking have you ever seriously watched him boxing live before?
I have...up close and personal...and honestly, he does have some decent boxing skills. Is he as good as Roy was in his prime? No, but he, along with a select few other MMA fighters, actually does have some decent skills. And really, you don't have to be THAT good in order to lay hands on Roy. Tarver ain't all that...and neither is Glen Johnson. In fact, even slew-footed Felix Trinidad, who was coming out of 2+ year layoff, was able to touch Roy. If Silva had the fight lined up and solely trained boxing, I think he'd actually give Roy some problems given his height advantage, his reach advantage, his size advantage (oh yes, he's bigger than Roy) and the fact that he's a southpaw.
Don't get me wrong, I'd still favor Roy to win since, after all, he's Roy and the boxing ring is his home, but I don't think it would be the blowout that some of you guys think and honestly, I could see Silva touching those whiskers and clipping him...that would not surprise me at all.
That being said, Jones by boring unanimous decision as he plays it safe and just outpoints him.
