Brits love a winner - Totally wrong. People love Ricky Hatton because he is down to earth, respectful and the best boxer England has seen in a long time. Look at the support for Frank Bruno and tell me we love a winner.

England v Australia Ashes when england won. Guys who played 1 test got MBE's, there were tickertape parades and documentaries, week long parties!
Compare that to when Australia win, nothing happens.
Joe Calzaghe is a good example. For all his achievments until recently he wasnt that well supported in the UK. He stops fighting bums, proves himself against some top contenders in Lacy and Kessler, and suddenly his popularity soars. His fights do bigger numbers, he makes more money, gets the big fights he wants, and even gets named sports personality of the year!
Good model for Witter to follow.

Hatton is hardly down to Earth anymore. He is just chasing money now, and wont prove that he is the best fighter England has in a long time by beating his nearest challenger in Witter.
By the way Lennox didnt fight that long ago, and his record is far better than Ricky's.....
Yeh i mean you'd think that if Junior was that desperate for the fight he would have at least made an offer
Fact is Junior Witter knows he get's more publicity from publicly slagging off Hatton than he does from beating fighters like N'dou, Kotelnik, Harris etc...
Why hasn't he made an offer?
I will raise this point once again.
Ricky has fought Tszyu and Mayweather.
Why would he be afraid of Witter?
We aw what he did against Tszyu, he launched himself head first in against one of the games top punchers!
Why would he fear Witter?
It is possible that he does not wish to chase Witter, who despite all his demands for this fight, would box defensively on the back foot.
At his age, maybe he feels that he has a lot to redeem and a fight against witter, which would surely be a boring ud, would do little to enhance his image or emboss his legacy?

Ok since you wanna go there, if Vivian Harris is his biggest win then why is Hatton fighting Lazcano who lost a UD to Harris.
Come on man...the excuses are over and Hatton needs to step up or step down before he gets impeached.
I suppose you think Malignaggi is more deserving than Witter right? His biggest claim to fame is getting his face smashed in by Cotto.

I don't understand why people compare Hatton's opponents with Witter's, especially when they are trying to prove a point on Witter's behalf. Lets compare the two fighters - jab = witter; body punching = Hatton; combinations = both; attitude and experience = Hatton; chin = Hatton; finishing = Hatton. Hatton will definitely win, and he has no need to take this fight until he has finished fighting the best.
I have a theory Donny. It isnt necessarily right but it could be the reason Hatton dont wanna fight Witter.
True Hatton has fought Tszyu and PBF so why would he be scared of Witter. The thing about Tszyu and Hatton is that they are both great fighters and are future HOFers, losing to them probably wouldnt do a great deal of harm to your legacy because they are great champs.
The trouble with Witter is that he is not well known, is awkward as fuck and may just be good enough to beat Hatton on his best night. If this did occur it'd do massive damage to Hattons legacy and moneymaking ability. Also it would mean that Hatton would not be seen as Englsnds best fighter anymore.....
This is why fighting Witter may actually scare Hatton more than fighting PBF or Kostya. Remember just a theory.
Witter is dangerous, there is no doubt about that. That said, he only has a puncher's chance against Hatton. There is no way that he boxes him to a decision. As much as some people want to see Hatton embarrassed (and I can't understand why), he will continue to be the best light-welterweight in the world for a while yet. I just wish that the man he won the title from had fans as classy as the fighter himself. Kostya has moved on; some people could learn a good lesson there.
True Both the Mayweather and Tszyu fights will be viewed as pluses for Hatton as he took on two legitimate "greats."
I understand what you're sayning Eagle and agree somewhat.
But I know that Hatton believes he can beat Witter.
I feel the primary issue is, that at the moment Hatton is trying to publicise everyone he fights right now and he wants to look good.
In beating Witter, Hatton would be facing an oppoenet who would make him look horrible.
Witter's style, although in my opinion, not enough to beat Hatton, certainly has the potential to make Ricky look awkward, messy and perhaps slow.
Thats not the image Hatton wants to relay to the world audience.
