Whilst I think a Golota fight would be entertaining I don't think it would be a good career move for Haye.
Far and away the best opponent for him to face in my mind is Hasim Rahman.
Former world champion, former Lennox Lewis conquerer and importanly probably the most recognisable American heavyweight in the world currently still active, discounting Holyfield of course.
There was a reason that was the fight being considered before Maccerinelli and that is becuase it makes excellent business, commerical and boxing sense for Haye.
Rahman is still one of the biggest names in heavyweight boxing, was a world champ only a couple years ago and is very beatable right now.
If I was Warren I'd be pushing like mad for a Rahman fight in London in the summer Showtime would definitely love to pick this fight up and it would give him some big attention amongst American boxing fans.
If he fought Golota I doubt any major American network would cover it.
That wouldn't be a bad test
Brock--is not that small (230's), but outside of his ranking, I wouldn't run to see this fight.
Toney--whoever said the thing about Toney's 'prime' was right. His Robinson-Jirov-Holyfield period was a testament to his greatness. Now he is a testament to his great appetite.
Golata--I agree--high risk, low reward. Did you forget that Bowe couldn't KO this guy? If you think Haye hits like Brewster or LLewis, you are crazy.
Fast Eddie might be his best choice. If not, he should use the HW workhorse... Dominic Guinn. Everyone beats him (except Fraudley).
Or he could fight Kali Meehan. Can you believe he is #3 in the WBA![]()
Then you missed the point ICB, Golata is a name and a win over him would better his chances and marketibility to get in the thick of things sooner or later
Well Holyfield is a NAME too and he's just as old as Golota!
Haye should fight someone younger and more "dangerous" than Golota. They don't really have to be dangerous but the thought has to be there.
Hasim Rahman is a good idea, Shannon Briggs, Danny Williams, James Toney, or Oleg Maskaev....those are all top name AND very beatable for Haye but also kind of dangerous.
