this was a close fight, i've watched it twice since the night.......... i still cant see how they gave calzaghe 250 landed punches................... it was close, could have gone either way.

my thing is the judge who scored it 116-111 to calzaghe is the same judge who scored it 116-112 for mayweather against de la hoya........ sim fights opposite scores but both with wide margins.......... makes you thing that its a matter of who a judge likes that scores close rounds, if he's a fan, you get the nod, if he's not then the benefit of the doubt goes against you

Yesterday I rewatched the fight closely with the sound off and scored it. I was drinking when I watched it the first time, and I came away thinking that Joe won clearly. I remember thinking the Lederman card was pretty good. With the sober second watching, I came to different conclusion - Joe won - barely - and there were enough swing rounds that I can see why Hopkins fans are pissed. I like Joe, but I'm not his biggest fan, and I appreciate Hopkins. In fact, I really paid attention to some of the inside fighting that is easy to miss drunk and easy to miss if you aren't a strong judge. Enough talking.

Here's my card. I'm noting all the rounds that I consider swing rounds.

    H - C

    1 10 8
    2 10 9 (swing)
    3 10 9
    4 9 10 (swing)
    5 10 9 (swing)
    6 9 10 (swing)
    7 10 9 (swing)
    8 9 10
    9 9 10
    10 9 10 (swing)
    11 9 10
    12 9 10 (swing)

    Hopkins 113 Calzaghe 114

Swing rounds won - Hopkins 3, Calzaghe 4.

That's a damn close fight. I think Hopkins gets penalized for fighting ugly and holding. I also think that other than the first rounds, even though Hopkins land more of the really meaningful punches, they didn't have much effect on Calzaghe. If Hopkins punchers were as effective as he claims, Calzaghe should have been getting weaker as the time went on and showing effects of the blows. Still, close, close fight. Calz got SD and that's about what he deserved, but he's didn't lose or get stuck with a draw.
JOE,BY CLEAR UD IN MY BOOK~!!

    IT WASNT CLOSE AT ALL,,

Calzaghe and his groupies. They do make me laugh.

thank the good lord you werent scoring holyfield-lewis II, you probably still would of had evander winning by 3-4 rounds.

At the time of the fight i like 95% of brits up at 3 in the morning were watching it with a complete undecisive view just hoping joe had done enough to win the fight, commentary teams on setanta and bbc radio both suggested hopkins was coming out on top and duke mckenzie even scored it 115-114 to hopkins at the end.

Ive since seen the fight sober twice over and both times ive had calzaghe 115-112

Only person in Las vegas who actually believed hopkins had won the fight was a female american judge - you couldnt make it up could you!!
WELL ANY FIGHT MCKENZIE SCORES,IM GOING THE OPPPOSITE WAY,HE PREDICTED LACY AGAINST JOE FOR CHRIST SAKE

and i gotta agree, its a clear UD to calzaghe even if it isnt one of his best performances, the SD was a joke!!

the americans were walking out by round 11,,what did they see that the internet avengers dont,my cousin was there, and like me has been a boxing fan for years, its a clearcut victory.

so what if he didnt look so good, does anyone against hopkins?

I still havn't met one person outside of these forums that had Calzaghe winning. My trainers, friends, everybody at my boxing gym and everybody at the gym where I work had it for Hopkins.
The version I downloaded was quite jumpy so it was hard to watch. I wanna watch it again. Can't make a proper decision otherwise.

I have watched the fight three times...and i still Hopkins should have won a close decision. It all comes down to who LANDED more punches overall and who LANDED cleaner/more effective punches. I think compubox is a complete joke...so please don't use it as proof of Calzaghe out landing Hopkins. Calzaghe could have thrown a million punches...but even after the third time watching this fight...most of his punches neither landed nor were effective. Sure, Hopkins tired out. Sure, Hopkins almost completely relied on one punch (straight right). And yes, he fought ugly towards the end. But that all being said...he landed more, cleaner punches. Joe sure looked busy...but most of his punches either missed or where pitter patter shots that weren't all that effective. American or British...could care less. And i have nothing personal against Joe...seems like a nice guy. I just think Calzaghe is a bit overrated and lost a close fight to a past prime Hopkins.

There were too many close rounds this too be a clear UD. If you look back at my scorecard, and you give all 3 of Hopkins closely won rounds to Joe, maybe you would see it as "a clear UD."

I give credit for body work, and Hopkins landed tons of body shots on the inside to go with those straight rights, and there were some rounds where Joe barely landed a clear punch.

Like I said, Calzaghe won, barely, and for those of you who think he won a wide UD, a la 116-111. 1g5a22, please post your scorecard. I would love to see how you pulled that score off. I bet it looks exactly like Lederman's (cuz you're taking his word for it), and we all know that he's half blind and for that reason credits volume punchers way too much.

Are you Preme or SEANNIE under a new name?

My 2 cents. I watched it twice, the first time with the sound muted so I couldn't hear the commentary. It was close, but I had Calzaghe winning. Later in the fight it seemed that Hopkins was just throwing one punch and then clinching. I had several rounds even, which seems to go against what most of the judges do in their scoring.

The last time I was actually drinking heavily and scored a fight it was Kelly Pavlik vs Jermain Taylor II.I actually remember the scores I had it
8-4 for Taylor. The next day I watched it again and said my god did I smoke anything while I was in my session.
