He can write what he likes, he is still spouting nonsense if he thinks Manny is the worlds most famous sports star.

Unlike Beckham, Ive yet to see Manny on national news in England or Japan (Where I live now). Never seen him on a talk show, never seen him advertising any Multinational brands, never seen his photo splattered all over department stores and fashion shops.

This isnt to suggest that I dont like Manny or that he isnt popular, the author is simply getting carried away.

Probably... Michael Swann (the author) is a Pacquiao nuthugger?

Regarding major multinational brand advertisement, Pacquiao has a Nike commercial with Kobe Bryant, Cristiano Ronaldo, Roger Federer, Maria Sharapova, and Xiang Liu.

That's a very good company of several sports superstars. Xiang Liu is the only one I'm not familiar with...

    Here's that Nike commercial:

I think Pac is a great guy all 'round.. Great for boxing.. Great for sport in general.. His work ethic is sensational, he has trained his skills very very hard.
I'm sure he is huge in his home country though, as they don't have any big sportsmen..

Same sort of thing with Australia. If we have an international star, it really grabs the attention and support from every sport fan..
I don't think he is the worlds biggest sportsman though.. In some circles he is very very well known.. But I can gaurantee you I can go into my workplace tomorrow, ask the 100 odd staff that work there, and I doubt even 5 of them would have even heard his name before..

Mike Tyson, Ali, even Lennox Lewis are more household names than Manny..

If he's doing Nike commercials i'm sure he will be a little more well known, and I think he deserves all the success and money that he has coming to him.

But I don't think the author has much perspective on real time reality if he think that Manny is, or will be the worlds most well known sports star.

Ehhh, what can I say? My boy has gone big and it will be a matter of time when when he will truly become a household name all over the world..... maybe if he will be able to TKO Diaz in round 1 and TKO Hatton in round 2. hehehe.

Anyway, there's also a chance that he might be forgotten immediately if Diaz TKO him.

    Amen on the dumb thread.

Pac has nothing at 140 imaging at 147.

I love Pac but the movies you see him down there in your country are not real.

I hope one day Pacquiao can visit Australia... There's a considerable Filipino population in OZ more particularly in the cities of Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and many other...

I can only speak for my area where I live and who I hang out with, but

Commonly spoken names are: ODLH, Kobe, Shaq, A-Rod, Beckham, Henry.

When I bring up Pacquiao to the average Joe I hang out with the ask 3 or 4 times how to pronounce it and then ask if he's any good. I am sure in the Phillipines and anyone worldwide that follows boxing even casually or occasionally would know him, I haven't met that many people that know who he is. Where I live though boxing is not very popular anymore.

I do however find it funny that someone would write an article that says basically "PAC is popular" not exactly investigative journalism, kinda one of those things that goes without saying if it's true.

I can say that PAC is very popular in the internet worldwide... Just like in the internet boxing forums, for example in this forum, PAC is heavily discussed.

I remember PACQUIAO made it to Yahoo's top 5 list of most search names/words...

And if a internet boxing website carry any news about PAC, it will surely get a lot of hits. I can even sense that some boxers called out PAC just to have their name in the news. One of the latest is Amir Khan. Maybe this is the workings of the management of those boxers. They wanted some free publicity of their own boxers so why not call out PAC.

I like Manny and he is a big name in the sporting world but not quite that big...

    1. ODLH is the biggest name in boxing hands down

    2. Any writer that uses the word "Duh" in his article I question his knowledge of anything

    3. More of the average person on the street would know Evander Holyfield's name before Pacquiao's if we went world wide....Don't take my word for it do a test of your own..Pacqiao is famous in the sporting world and his homeland but not to the average person

    4. The ONLY ATHLETE to EVER garner the attention this guy claims Pacquia does is Muhammad Ali...Even this long after his fighting days...That man can get press just by opening his front door..

This kid is a bit too much of a fan and past the slightly biased point...He needs to stop writing for 15 rounds and start his own Pacquiao homepage.....

And in no way do I mean anything negative towards Manny...The guy is a tremendous fighter and does have quite some popularity but not to the extent this guy makes out

It also attributes to the type of life he lives.

Mayweather is trying to become a mainstream name by doing the things he's been doing. Cotto could be just as big, but he only becomes news when he's about to fight because he probably lives a normal life. Hatton is the same way. HUGE in England, but the most excitement out of boxing you get out of him is his liking to beer and food. I could name more fighters but all-in-all everyone leads pretty normal lives outside the ring.

Pacquiao on the other hand does movies, goes clubbing, makes music, delays training and appearances, supposedly cheats on his wife, etc. There's a lot of room for error with his lifstyle considering he's a boxer. Look at Tyson! He lived a crazy life outside of boxing and that's why he was always on the spotlight.

It's basically just easy to write stuff about Manny because there's so much excitement with him in the ring AND outside of it.
