For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.
Don't you guys all think RJJ is shot or way past it ?? I mean all he done was beat Tito (Who was shot) and yet everybody is commending him and thinks he could beat Calzaghe.
Yeah this is dissapointing (as a calzaghe fan) I can understand he wants that one big last payday and also would want to end his career in wales rather than vegas but coming out saying pavlik doesn't want to fight him I thinks off the mark. You can understand his reasoning its just a shame for boxing wouldv'e been a great match.
He says in the article about maybe a fight in future, but who seriously expects him to fight on past the end of the year?
To me it sounds like his desire has gone and he just wants one last payday, and that all important big name on his resume!
I like Calzaghe, and was believing he's starting to do what he should of many years ago and take on the best over in the States. But this seems like the easier option.
I understand his reasoning. He'll get more money and not get his face mashed in in the process.
One big YAWN to this threads comments. People claiming they are starting to dislike JoeWhen did you LIKE Joe? after his Kessler win? That likeness lasted hmmmmmmm 2 fights. Fickle wankers
If Hopkins could catch Joe in the first round with a right hand and drop him Pavlik would find right hand after right hand and destroy him.Don't be surprised if Jones beats him.
It's obvious Pavlik's massacre of Lockett made Calzaghe think twice.
Lockett is a decent fighter (not on Pavliks level but he is a tough guy) but yeah, if I was Joe at his stage of his career I would think twice too. If i was in Joe's shoes I would fight Pavlik, but in this day and age, for some stupid reason, fighters with unbeaten records are more important. Which is bullshit and ruins boxing
Yawn, Jones is past it, pointless fight to me.
Im dissapointed that Calzaghe doesnt want to try and go out with a bang. Beating the young and powerful Pavlik would be the ultimate seal on his career. Outoworking an old Jones Jr who has been nailed repeatedly in recent years would be a let down.
Im not impressed by this.
I agree with you mate, I want to see Calzaghe fight Pav, I would not mind if he lost either because I think Pavlik is great for the sport and I love watching him fight.
Joe has taken risks in his last few fights (which is what everyone wanted afterall) so I don't think he deserves a bashing in this instance, thats all.
Its the final time. I dont think Hopkins was a risk fight really. Kessler was a risk though. Its the last time ever....go out with a bang and go down fighting if it need be. Thats what I would like to see Joe doing.
Fighting Jones Jr. is pointless. Jones is a legend but lost as many as he has won in recent years and lost them more decisively.
To beat Pavlik at this stage in his career would be very special.
From a legacy point of view of course Calzaghe wants to face Roy Jones.
If he fights and beats him then he's beaten America's best fighter of the past 20 years in Jones, and the most dominant in Hopkins.
You guys who say that Pavlik would be a bigger fight or a better name on his resume are deluded.
The only way Pavlik would be a big name is if he BEAT Joe.
If Calzaghe fights Pavlik and wins, then all Pavlik did was beat Taylor and defend against a nobody in Gary Lockett. His legacy won't be that impressive in hindsight so Calzaghe won't gain much from the victory.
People have already dismissed his wins over Lacy, Kessler and Hopkins so why would it be any different if he beat Pavlik?
Like everyone here I'd love to see the fight, but clearly it makes far more sense for Joe to fight the biggest superstar in boxing of the past 20 years even if he is past his best.
Jones is a first ballot hall of famer, a boxing legend and a name that is guaranteed to go down in history.
Pavlik, if he lost to Calzaghe, would merely have been a belt holder.
It's a no brainer for Joe.
