It's a risky decision, but give Williams credit for having the guts to take on the challenge, if the fight does indeed happen.

Brutal. I'm beginning to miss Jermaine Taylor, at least when he cherry-picked gimme opponents he only dipped one weight class below his.

True, but I'd rather see Pavlik fight a big-name welter than a no-name middleweight. I'd rather see Paul Williams get a shot than another Gary Lockett.

There has to be someone in the top 15 MW's who is more deserving of this fight. I know they want a gimme to set up Pavlik-Abraham (at least I hope that's what they're doing), but Pavlik just had a gimme fight in Lockett. Williams has never ever fought at LMW, let alone MW, and he's done nothing to deserve a shot at Pavlik. The fight has little credibility and no competitive aspect to it, Pavlik will steamroll Williams.

Jermaine Taylor was raked over the coals when he fought Ouma and Spinks, and that was after a series of fights against much better opposition than Pavlik has faced, I hope Pavlik gets that same treatment.

Middleweight is not a deep division right now. Besides Abraham, name a middlweight who would create the buzz that a Williams fight will create.

Unlike your boy Calfage, Pavlik fights who ever challenges him. Willams did. He said on hbo he wanted Calzaghe next but Calzaghe took the easier fight with Jones Jr.

This is worse than Spink and Ouma FIRSTLY Ouma and Spinks are legit 154lb fighters held titles at the weight SECONDLY Williams has never fought above 147 THIRDLY Pavlik is 6 Fucking 3".

Williams is a freakishly big welterweight who rehydrates up into the mid-160s for his fights. He's bigger than Spinks or Ouma and is a more dangerous opponent.

I think Pavlik knocks out Williams, but I give Williams a better chance than I gave either Ouma or Spinks.

Williams may well be a big freak but still.. this is a "gimme" 2 for Pavlik.

Paul's first dozen fights were at Jr Middleweight and Middleweight.

He moved down in weight to fight the smaller guys.

So would I but why aren't they trying to get it on with Abraham? 2 Fighters on top of their game with great punch power and exciting fight styles. Williams still has a lot to prove at welterweight yet IMO and he could probably make more money there at the minute with all the big names knocking about. I really can't see the benefits for either fighter here.
Except for the fact that Pavlik keeps his undefeated record that is!

Williams should have no problem making weight, he has a middleweight frame. Doubt he has ever fought someone taller than him though. Kelly should look impressive but I can see this being a good fight. Seen the ghost last night and he looked good, he'll be ready or whoever Arum lines up, it'll be tougher for Williams if the fight is indeed in Atlantic City aka little YOUNGSTOWN when Kelly fights. Were all buzzing to get down there.
