Trainer whilst you believe whatever you want you must accept that Renaldo Snipes and Tim Witherspoon took it to Holmes and damn near beat him and of course Holmes did show he was resiliant vs Shavers but Earnie was a TEENY TINY heavyweight and if he could sit Holmes down like he did then Larry would be in DEEP shit vs the likes of Bowe, Lewis, and Wlad no matter what you might think about them.
Larry could jab like a mofo but Bowe worked on the inside and moved VERY well, Lewis had crazy power and was very athletic, Wlad is more athletic than people want to admit he's robotic because he sits on his punches but he's very accurate and doesn't risk much.
Larry won fights by controlling distance with the jab and controlling the pace vs the bigger stronger fighters of more recent times he would have trouble.
Witherspoon was a better fighter than Sanders, Brewster and Golota.
Snipes put Holmes down but hey he got up and won - something that Wlad didn't do against a similar fighter in Brewster.
I'm sure if Brewster and Sanders can spark out Wlad then Larry could. Wlad is pretty one dimensional and his skills are not in the same league as Larry Holmes.
Bowe just was too lazy to beat Larry and tended to fight much smaller, powerless fighters and Larry would have given Bowe a beating.
Lennox and Larry are closely matched but for me Lennox had that right hand to keep Larry respectful. Lennox on points.
Lennox and Larry are Top 10 Heavy's while Bowe is Top 20 but Wlad ain't Great and still has alot to prove even to break into the Top 20 - the guys robotic and chinless.
Yeah but to be fair Larry didn't have the punching power of a Brewster or Sanders. Say what you want about those guys but they could both hit like mules.
I still say Larry would win though. Wlad's predictable attack and lack of body punching would cost him the fight IMO. Larry would simply outfence him with jabs to the body.
Larry Holmes wasn't a KO puncher (69 wins & 44 KO's)....Wlad IS a KO puncher (51 wins & 45 KO's), Lewis...let's not even go there, and Bowe (42 wins 33 KO's INCLUDING a KO win over Evander Holyfield).
You may very well remember Riddick being lazy but in his short prime he was as dangerous as they come, anytime you take a prime Evander Holyfield and just whip his ass 2 out of 3 times then you're doing something special. Also Larry never fought guys as strong as Wlad, Lewis, and Bowe...those guys are beasts
All-Time great status does not factor in to deciding who wins a 1 on 1 fight. Buster Douglas was a bad mofo when he beat Tyson and on that night he may very well have beat any person put infront of him.
There is no way in hell, that Klit beats Holmes, noooo!!! friggin way
Lyle will sell Wlad til the day he dies...![]()

Can't rep you again..... but that's a damn good way of putting it. Bowe was a monster in his very short prime. He put some serious beatings on Holyfield and I was rooting for Holy..... He took a damn good punch also. I can't see Holmes jab as good as it is having much affect on the Bowe that fought Holyfield first time around.
So what if some guys gave Larry trouble? Who hasn't been given trouble at one point or another? Doug Jones gave Ali trouble in his prime, and who the fuck is Doug Jones? Same with Sir Henry Cooper, and how good was he really? Roland LaStarza gave Rocky Marciano hell in the first fight which was what easily could have been the Rock's only loss, and how many top 10 HW lists do you see Roland ending up on?
My favorite Holmes quote is on Don King...
“That man is the devil, that’s why he combs his hair that way, to cover the horns.”
