Yes I have to admit, I am a fan of Reid, which is why I didnt like Calzaghe, I also had a disdain for his win over Eubank, as I was a fan of his also.
Calzaghe, I thought, was an arrogant twaat with no substance but he went on to prove me wrong and gain my respect, especially with the performance over Kessler, no one else will repeat that druybbing over Mikkel, at 35 years of age and reigning as longa s he had I thought Joe may be ripe for the picking but he looked as good as ever, showing every aspect of his game, the man is something special, to keep the performances up, I dont think hes unbeatable but he is bloody hard to beat, he doesnt fight as reckless as he did, so in that respect he has slowed but I see him at least giving trouble if not beating all the great super middles of the Nineties.
In fact as they were so fond of avoiding each other, id say they wouldnt want to go anywhere near him.
Back on track, Carl is 31 and yet to face a world ranked opponent, hes missed the boat here, the names I have already mentioned are leagues above him, they had faith in their ability and took their chances, Reid against Nardiello in his home country Italy which is notorious for bad decisions, Calzaghe was supposed to fight Collins for his chance but Eubank stepped in with a weeks notice and Joe still took it, both Eubank and Calzaghe took chances here.
Froch was offered a fight against Joe and used any excuse he could to pussy out, no matter what anyone says, he was offered the fight and he declined, what ever conditions doesnt matter, it was his big chance to get in the spotlight and do what he was promossing everyone for years "smoke Calzaghes boots" but he had no faith in his ability.
Now he is stepping up, in to his thirties, he may have left it too long, or mey well get away with this one seeing as his opponent is also untested and hasnt looked great.
Kessler would embarrass Froch, Joe made him run and cry in a corner so went for Kessler instead, that is a fighter, everyone is passing Froch by because he is unsure of himself, he gives all the big talk but at the end of the day he turned down a genuine offer to fight the best supermiddle in the world for the past 11 years on prime time tv![]()
