Just rest the hands, think why it has been injured and avoid doing whatever hurt you in future! Maybe different hand wraps or tweaking your technique could help?

    Anyway, good luck my friend!
Had a couple of days rest for the hand and it improved, went for a bike ride yesterday, and that brought the pain back. How long rest do you think I should give it before going on pads or bag again?

As Von said we arent %100 sure what it is thats hurting. Joint injuries can be very twitchy, it could be something as simple as dehydration and low potassium levels,it could be a tendon sprain,or it could be a bone spur.
    And each have different responses
It could be eating bananas,it could be medical attention,or if its a spur, its just a matter of waiting it out.

Thanks. I've just realised it's the same feeling I had in my ankle when I strained my ligaments. Can't remember what the cure was for that. Rest? I'd like to recover asap.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm, sounds like you might be built kind of like I am,just naturally tight. If thats the case, you really just need to rest it, and snork as much Potassium as you can get your hands on. Also LOTS of hydration, coupled with salt intake(that sound mutually exclusive, but think about it,whats the other thing that comes out of your pores when you sweat).
Obviously not in the same sitting, but as part of your diet, gatorade, pickles and banannas should be in your life
