McCain has a chance to win, there are too many variables to call the race right now having a woman and minority running on seperate tickets kinds of throws all we know about polls out the window.

Bomp McCain was beaten in 2000 by the Bushies calling people in South Carolina and saying "Would you vote for John McCain if he had a black daughter out of wedlock?" ....sheisty stuff.

If you asked Democrats to choose a Republican Candidate they could bare in the White House before the general election began the majority of Democrats would have chosen John McCain and for good reason, he is a moderate Republican.

I like John McCain, I don't think Sarah Palin was the greatest choice as VP though.

Anything is possible. Watch for McCain to have an ace in the hole, which he will spring at the last moment, regardles of it's validity, leaving little time for an Obama response, or for meaningful debate. Then it would require a significant number of people to buy into this ace at the last minute.

In this article Obama says that economic conditions will get worse before they gets better, regardless of who wins the election.

Now this is a pretty significant statement for Obama to make right before an election.

Expect McCain to wait till Sundau or Monday, then make a major announcement that says that Obama is obviously unable to deal with economic conditions and is prepared to accept a recession, while I on the other hand have a new plan to end the recesion. This statement will get made regardless of the validity or even existence of said plan, without time for analysis before the election. It then remains to be seen whether a significant number of undecided and left leaning Americans will buy into this.

I don't quite follow you. Before the Obama campaign reacted to what? Obama makes the statement, as described in the article, and McCain responds.

Today when the stocks went down the McCain camp reacted first

I'm not talking about stocks going down. Stocks have been going up and down for weeks. That isn't even mentioned in the article. I'm talking about Obama's statement that things will get worse before they get better, no matter who is elected, and if, when, and how McCain will respond to that statement.

In a larger sense, I am talking aout making significant statements and promises at the last minute, as a campaign tactic in order to turn things around.

Of course he could, these "polls" are just how people feel on those days, let's see who actually shows up on November 4th. "A sure thing" and "politics" are never one and the same.
