I'm still hoping McCain wins. The next few years are going to be ugly for the US economy and foreign policy and it would be good for the GOP to reap what they sowed rather than have obama become the new Jimmy Carter who reaped what Nixon sowed.

So that means you GOP folks still have a lot to hope for, right? I was thinking from historical perspective that it would be possible. It would have been better if Mac was Democrat like Truman, though.
Ya, I wonder why anyone in his right mind would want to be a president now, with all the mess left behind and probably much more to follow. If I were both of them I'd give it gladly, free of charge, to ol' Ralph who's been aching for it ever since the days of our grandpas...
But seriously, I think, as Lyle has always been hoping for, that things will be all right, though no doubt it would be a bumpy road ahead, with lots of rocks, nay boulders, strewn all over. The great US of A, despite the arrogance of its leader sometimes, has been very resilient ever since the oil embargo - it has overcome many crisis without much damage, including a very serious savings and loan crisis of the 80's that likewise saw billions of dollars of public money been used to bail out those companies and mortgages in trouble. I must admit the present crisis is by far much more serious than any previous ones but with the knowledge and tools available today that weren't available then, the authorities will probably find the way to cruise thru the crisis somehow. But make no mistake about it, folks, the crisis is potentially very devastating. If the economic honchos can't get the loans moving again, many other financial institutions might get into trouble and when that happens, all the available money will soon dry up and... I'll leave it up to your imagination - it'll be so ugly that I haven't got the heart to describe it. But again, as I've said, the US and the world have been surprisingly resilient the last couple decades, so I'm confident, though guardedly, that everything will turn out all right. Just keep your fingers crossed, fellas.
Once in awhile, get outside in fresh air, take a deep breath & with a deep sigh, let out all the things that's bottled up inside you & be free, & you'll get a glimpse of nirvana.
