Mijares a total sportsman... Still smiling after the humiliating loss...
.
He looks awkward and too tight sometimes, not pretty to watch either, but he gets that added power by turning on his own centerline and striking on the move with heaps of weight transferance into his shots which seems to suit his weird body hang.
So really for his style that is good footwork and great timing ,he has more than a punchers chance every time. It'll take a tough smart fighter to be able to stay clear headed enough to find the spaces to catch him clean as he is comming in or have the counter moves down to catch him on the end of his.
Well if you are going to counter Vic, do it from the outside especially if he isn't squared up and is actually working behind a jab. Look at the KO Nonito was already on the way out when Vic was put down. Look at the distance between the two and how Nonito used the distance to his advantage. When Mijares was put in that situation he was moving the wrong way, he was shortening the gap by getting flatfooted or leaning in and he never corrected his mistakes. Mijares has the talent to beat Vic with some to spare but he you can't not have a backup plan or a second way to avoid punches when the first isn't working.
I don't even think it was so much of an issue with the jab, I mean certainly Vic isn't a threat to play counterpuncher so even if you miss you don't have to start over.
Time really does stand still whoever you are and when ever you get caught loading up like that.
All Vics intentions were on his left hand hitting home then,ko's are always more devastating when they come from a blind side.
Vic sure is open to some of them too.
Like Amat says; timed from the outside is the easier key to his style.
I tend to agree cause quite often on the inside with his turning style you can either run into one of his power shots; or your target area on him has moved off the centerline and you glance one andhe'll catch you comming back so there's two added maybes when in closer with his weird style.
If its to be done to Vic on the inside I think your going to have to move as he moves and throw one from where you know he will finally face, catch him on the end of one of his own swivels.
Ive not seen the whole fight to be honest with you so cant comment past one observation.
But by the look in Vics eyes just before he goes down he has one thing on his mind and thats a stoppage !
You cant do that unless you have already got someone rocked and holding or you've taken all their best shots and felt they haven't even rocked your boat.
Its just interesting to see what Vic can make work for him from what many would call an unorthodox style in more ways than one.
From what I can gather the loss has done him good, he is changing and is still an evolving fighter so next time may have a differernt outcome.
He will go up another notch in my estimation if he calls out loud for a rematch and vengence after this or his next win.
Darchinyan Keeps His Promise. Knocks Out Mijares in 9
As for his future, don't look for a rematch with Nonito Donaire who handed him his first loss. Donaire recently parted ways with promoter Gary Shaw, who still harbors a bit of ill-will for his former fighter.
When asked about a rematch, "Shaw replied, "I have a little dog that begs. That's what Nonito will have to do if he wants that rematch. No chance."
Darchinyan however appeared to want that fight as much as he wanted the Mijares bout.
"If [Donaire] gos all 12 rounds with me, he will retire. I'm going to punish him. I promise you that."
a rematch with donaire will be a much competitive one.vic has improved but i doubt if he could beat donaire.styles make fights.and vics style is just made for nonito's.unless a dramatic change happens to vics style or if he could hit donaire with a bomb from the 'blind side' (or should i say a lucky punch) he can pull it of.even donaire who's never been down in his career (like vic before he KO'd him) cant stand that.any fighter wont be able to take that.im not saying its a lucky punch on donaire's case,,it was his gameplan and that sweet nasty lefthook is indeed part of his arsenal.but to me the word timing is kinda synonymous to the word luck.in some ways![]()

An empty can is always noisy.
Vic is the man. This could be the second biggest upset of the year. It may be the first. I don't know one person that picked Vic in this fight. Can anyone name a boxing writer that chose Vic to win? Hats off.
I was at the Nonito Donaire fight. I have pictures, which I'll post later. Nonito came out to a Philipino Hip Hop group. It was actually pretty proper.
Also, in passing I said hello to Ricky and Matthew Hatton. Obviously, he was dressed casually, but Ricky didn't look overweight at all. To me, he really looks like a British Bulldog.

Mijares just doesn't like getting hit. He needed to be first. Everytime he was first or initiated the attack he found the most success in this fight. When you initiate, your sure to take some hitting back, on an average, especially against someone awkard.
Sure Mijares could have been knocked out by the 4th round, BUT this is BOXING, you fight for the win.
Hopefully Vic fights Carlos Montiel, would be b*d*ss.![]()
