I didn't think his hand was damaged at all. I think his people invented the hand story as an excuse if he lost. After the fight he was embarrased when he was asked about the hand and said it had nothing to so with him losing the fight, he knew he'd been beaten fair and square.

What does that have to do with Calzaghe? You are now (without realising it) highlighting Warrens negotiating skills.

And Kessler was "pulling" his right hand the entire fight? I doubt you've even seen the fight ONCE

There is no way Kessler was in a position to demand a rematch. They gave up the location, but that only meant more money. To say they gave up pay is ridiculous - Kessler got more money out of that fight than Pavlik or Hopkins got for their fight - combined.

I dont think the hand mattered much. I, for one, didnt see too many problems with it. Maybe it hurt his preparations a bit (we'll never know), but he choose to go on with the fight, and the minute he stepped into the ring he lost any right to use it as an excuse. Same with Pavlik.

However, even if there was a difference in class in Cardiff, I wouldnt completely rule out Kessler's chances in a rematch. First of all, Calzaghe is likely to get worse. Second, Kessler fought the wrong fight from round 5 or so, making it a bit to easy for Calzaghe (I dont think he would have won using plan A anyway, especially not in Wales, but he would have made it close). Keep in mind also that before that fight Kessler had never lost a round with all three judges, and probably lost less than a handful of rounds altogether in his career. So when he needed to be clutch the most, it was a whole new experiecence for him and his corner. If he can stay with his gameplan in a place where the cards arent stacked against him, Kessler could have a chance.

But all of this doesnt matter, as it would make no sense for Calzaghe to fight him anyway.

I give him credit for beating a young unbeaten fighter in Kessler and if he went to the states and fought another young unbeaten fighter in Dawson i would give him credit again. Because he went to the state and played it pretty safe really fighting 2 old men in Hopkins and Jones i know Hopkins did a job on Pavlik but he is still an old Hopkins and then when he went to Denmark and Germany it was to fight McIntyre and Veit a man he had previously stopped in 1 round all pretty safe bets for travelling to fight really. he fought a faded old weight drained Eubank for the Vacant WBO title then he fought bums and former champs some only a few fights from retirement then he fought Lacy which made him a unified champ but then followed this with Bika and Manfredo Peter Manfredo this was a complete joke even the stoppage was a joke then he fought his best fight in my opinion Kessler but then followed this with Hopkins then Roy Jones who turned out to be more washed up than most first thought. He should have been fighting fighters in the world top ten when he was Super middle champ i think he wasted his best years ive said it this already but Frank Warren said himself that Joe pulled out of 10-12 good fights he lined him up he also said that if it weren't for himself and Joe's dad he was gunna pull out vs Lacy. Joe also said in 2006 that he dont need places like Las Vegas and Madison Square Garden they don't interest him then on 24/7 he's saying things like this is what its all about what better way to go out in the Garden the mecca of boxing. For Lacy he had a knackered hand, thats the only reason he nearly pulled out ....

& rightly or wrongly with Joe, I think he really believed he was the best & that they should come to him ... but its the round in circles thing again some may agree yet some dont ... opinions again aint it bud ... the re match with Veit he was furious over but had no choice I think Veit had become mandatory at the time & refused to step aside for Joe to take a bigger fight which off hand escapes me ....

But interesting to note that Nigel Benn wished Joe had been around in his day too .. but also went on to say he thinks he woulda still come out on top of the pile tho...

With Joe people will always be divided, but good to see you as a none JC fan not sounding spiteful which is seeming to be the pattern with some of late...

He probably had an injured left hand as well. Now that I come to think of it Kessler wasn't really throwing punches with either hand so both of them must have been damaged.
