That just came on cable a few weeks ago and I had to watch it. I saw this in the theater and it was the first movie in years to =stick= with me. In particular, it was the video of what happened to the original crew. It looked like someone had reached down someone else's throat and pulled EVERYTHING out amongst barely glimpsed bodies (it looked like someone might have been raping a corpse).
One Missed Call was awful. Anytime I can pick out plotholes without even trying the movie is going in a bad direction. I remember seeing the trailer for this and not hearing anything more for like 6 months. I'd read something that they were desperately trying to rework the script into something watchable and in the end they just failed. It was worse than Pulse, both movies were based on superior Japanese originals. I think the problem with a lot of these remakes on Asian films is they don't really translate. I mean, if you watch some of these horror movies in their original form they make no sense. And then somebody figures it'd make a good movie for the mainstream American audience. Just because it worked for The Ring and The Grudge doesn't mean we can import Asian horror wholesale. I'd be more satisfied if they just took the basic concept and wrote a completely new story. Just like Shutter. I saw the Japanese original, which was actually pretty good, but the American version wasn't terrible, it was just BORING. I didn't care about any of them and thought they all should have died a horrible death. I'm only saddened that movies like Battle Royale and Tale of Two Sisters are being remade. OK, I haven't seen Tale of Two Sisters. But I wanna.
Spiral. Go rent Spiral. That's a good, original film. Nice twist at the end too.
