strange
It sounds similar to what i get i don't know why but it is very painful everytime i do it. And normally my body helps curl it up even when i try not to, i do put my back against a wall to help it but still my Biceps aren't doing all the work. Thats why i like the EZ-Bar much better, because it stops the pain and its a much more comfortable position, you should check it out.

Do you think if you are using other muscles in your body to haul it up the first thing you might want to do is cut the weight down until you are no longer doing that?
