One of the trainer's at my gym is 62 and he sometimes does the pads for me, and i've have had no problems with him infact he's very knowledgable. And often gives me a quick tap on the face, if i drop my hands slightly after i've finished punching.
And i get along with him because he's always joking, but when push comes to shove he does help get me motivated in training sessions. So i think anyone of any age can do the pads, if they know what there doing obviously.
And i agree with Donny i think most of the stuff i see is for show, i mostly just practice technique with my punches on the pads. Getting my hands up ETC.
