Why do people hate Amir Khan so much? (Ring article attached)

I've honestly never heard anyone say they dislike Khan because of his Pakistani roots.

Maybe things are different in London?

Or maybe i don't know any racists.

I went to a Khan fight to offer some local support, not to Khan. They segregated the fans as they came in, an annoucement came over the speaker system about no racist chants etc not being tolerated and there was a big police pressence.

Annoyed the hell out of me. Especially when a group of lads, all asian, all sporting Khan tracksuits were sat in the opposing area. As the evening went on them were surrounded by police to protect them. They sat about grinning over the shoulders of the police as a few people were escourted out. The whole event had an air of wtf about it.

Nothing against them or Khan but, by forcing the fans to segregate and making an issue about Khans colour it draws attention to something that wasn't a problem until other people made it so. I've never been segregated like that in my life.

I don't like Warren and his overprotection of fighters. It harms the fighter and the quality of the sport in general and I don't like bangwaggons, so called fans who just sign up to a sole fighter based on whatever link they think they have with them.

Those who support Khan because of his ethnicity annoy me just as much as those who don't support him because of his ethnicity.

Which is pretty much the feeling I have toward pacfans in general. Hell at least they have a fighter that's done something to shout about.

I don't know if it was a subconsciece thing or not but the comparison with Naz came about immediately, and from the press. They have very different fighting styles, and guys like Witter/Froch/Degale are closer to Naz in terms of a boastful peronality.

I think people dislike him because he got a really good contract and has fought no one of any real significance, Warren has been protecting him beyond belief and now he has been found out.

I hope he can come back and maybe prove people wrong.

The thing I dislike about him is he is getting in trouble for knocking people down in Bolton Town center whilst jumping a red light, same reason why I cant stand Naseem anymore.

In my opinion there is no doubt that some of the hatred towards Khan comes from his race, in some people at least sub-consciously. I've seen a number of people who will get fervently behind any other British fighter going, yet seem to have real disdain for Khan.

However, there are obviously other reasons that play into it that I won't deny such as the PPV deal (which really pissed me off), the talk of taking on Mayweather, Hatton, Pacquiao etc when he still hadn't won anything other than a Commonwealth title, the hype that Warren & the media created round him by virtue of him being a medal winner.

The comparison with Naz has never helped him IMO, because he will never be the same type of fighter & he is nowhere near the cock Naz is. However, this was chiefly created by the media & happily encouraged by those around Khan, the same people who pushed for the PPV deal, principally Asif Valli & Khan's father. They probably thought it was a good idea looking more at Naz' success as a boxer rather than his antics that pissed a lot of people off.

Anyway back to the race issue, & one thing is clear & anyone who read any of the comments sections on British Sports websites after Prescott knocked him out will see that for a number of people his race was a big factor in their dislike. Comments like 'pakistanis are not genetically suited to sports' & 'least he can go back to managing a cornershop' are clearly racist, & these were the ones that weren't immediately deleted by the mods. It has not reached stuff like that on Saddo's thankfully, but I would be lying if I said I hadn't seen stuff that I consider racist on this forum although not necessarily about Amir Khan.

I remember playing a casual boxing fan on my local football team saying he didn't like Khan because he was 'too big for his own boots'. Maybe being mixed-race I do tend to read more or analyse what people say in a way others might not, but I have definitely heard & read things about Khan that I consider racist. I would also say Fenster that you should take it as a good sign you don't know anyone who's racist about Khan, it just means you keep good company

I will be honest enough to say that if a black fighter is up against white fighter, & I have no allegiance to either, then I will root for the black guy more. The Pac-fans don't bother me for their support of Pac, only for their lack of general boxing knowledge.

As you mentioned, subconsciouly, the racism is there yet to cover this, posters CONTINOUSLY you the same excuse about Khan over and over and over again.

Am I excusing Khan of not having his faults and he deserves to be criticized? ABSOLUTELY NOT! I will be the first to say he has a chin made of the finest China. I use to speak about his weak competition but now that's he stepping up to fight Barrera, I have changed my tune in that regard. Yet instead of giving praise to Khan for fighting tough competition, he gets SLAGGED on even more. LOL...the subconcious racism is so apparent, it's mind-boggling.

But what I've found on this forum and MANY other is the sheer amount of HATRED expressed towards Khan. Did you read the 2nd to last paragraph of my post, I said the posters on here deserve not to be called racist, I've never seen any evidence that suggests they are. There may be posters on the entire forum who I may feel can be racist, but bringing them up publicly isn't the right way to go about it. They can have their views, but I can also have the view that they're idiots not worth the time of my day & ignore them. But, the posters here have not shown me anything in this thread to suggest their racist, & if there was any one person who I thought was it would be borne out of reading a number of their posts in different topics & threads. I don't believe anyone has said anything throughout this thread that is racist so stop trying to tar certain people with that brush.

Something else I'd like to throw in here. Whilst we can admit that some people will hate on Khan because of colour/religion etc. There are plenty of people - and we're all guilty of it who just resort to name calling playground tactics. It doesn't have to have meaning or racist intent.

If a fat knacker walks in front of my car I give 'em abuse. In fact it happened the other day. One frizzy ginger haired cow and her black mate just held up her hand stopped the traffic and sauntered across the road. My language was less than ladylike as they chose to eyeball me.
