What courage from Marquez to be in there getting pushed and knocked around for 8 rounds by that human hurricane, and hitting it right back. The man is truly grace under pressure.

They'll replay it all tomorrow morning and afternoon on the different HBO channels, you can catch it plenty of times then.

Brilliant fight!! Diaz had me worried for Marquez early on, throwing so many and Marquez seeming to be ineffective on the ropes. But Marquez got the measure of Diaz and turned it around superbly. What a KO!!!! Tremendous.

Pac owes this man a rematch after the Hatton fight.

JMM fought a great fight tonight, and he certainly deserves to be right up there on the p4p rankings. I'm also glad he won. But I think he fought a terrible tactical fight in the first few rounds. He should have never allowed himself to get backed up against the ropes. Diaz was killing him in there. And the corner should've been more vocal about that between rounds. Luckily, JMM's counterpunching started to take their effect on Diaz, and eventually did him in. But JMM could've made it a bit easier on himself had he stayed off the ropes more. The difference between the ropes and middle of the ring were like between night and day.

Like Miles said, going to the ropes was working on Diaz's favor. Even his corner told JMM to get out of the ropes and fight him in the middle of the ring and guess where JMM cut, hurt, and ended up KOing Diaz?...IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RING .

I am impressed on Diaz stamina. That guy is a punch-throwing machine! Shows speed, combos, etc. Need to add a little bit more to the power though. Surprised how JMM made Diaz slow and finally KO him. Wow!

For the Cotto-Margarito fight, I was on a remote-ish island with no electricity, let alone internet/tv service. I didn't get to watch the fight until the last week of Aug. Diane was kind enough to record the fight and mail me a DVD of it just so I could watch it when I got back. Considering the outcome, that must've been a real pain in the ass for her to do.

Absolutely. JMM was frustrating the hell out of me every time he backed up against the ropes, especially the times Diaz wasn't pressuring - almost seemed like he wanted it there (and maybe he did - he does love to counter). Diaz was getting some nice work done there, and only there, so JMM should have kept it in the middle of the ring. Nacho was pleading with him to stay off the ropes though, and finally in round 8, JMM really began to listen - the beginning of the end for Diaz. His signature uppercut was surgical tonight (as usual), and the triple uppercut in the 6th was very entertaining. In all honesty, however, I think JMM was looking past Diaz - Diaz woke him up early on and made it a fight. When JMM almost went down in the second I though wow, time to go to work.

Diaz will carry on and tonight was a wonderful lesson for a skilled but learning fighter. Unless he decides to choose law-school over boxing, he'll be back and can hopefully use this brutal lesson to propel him to the next level. He does need to toughen up IMO - after he got the cut he was asking about it constantly in his corner, who abruptly told him to stop worrying about it and focus on his gameplan. In the post fight interview, he was all about the cut, reminiscent of the fight with Campbell. For some reason, getting cut up really affects this kid badly, and if you're going to compete with the elite fighters, you better be prepared to bleed. (I can't remember a fight when JMM wasn't bloodied up, including this one - doesn't phase the man a bit)

JMM deserves the big, big, big money fights (and has for years IMO). Future Hall of Famer and FotY award contender nearly every time (as with his little bro, and my second favorite fighter , Rafael).

    We all won tonight

I was pulling for Diaz. Have been a supporter for a while now. Love his story, work ethic and to watch him fight. I was really looking for the real JD to show up after being smashed by a much bigger, stronger and veteran Galaxy Warrior (who apparently is so much bigger - he can't even come close to makin' that weight when IBF, WBA, WBO titles are on the line) - we'll he did show up, but unfortunately so did JMM. Most entertaining fight I've seen all year and although the announcers thought Diaz was bigger and stronger than JMM, I didn't. I thought he had a shot of outworking JMM and being able to finish him off in the later rounds once he was tired. It seemed to be working until the middle of the fight. Diaz had JMM punching and getting hit more than he EVER has, but JMM started to look like he was gaining ground and man did he ever!!! If Diaz had more experience, he would have said "What the hell." and tried to bang when he was hurt. Manny Stewart called it immediately after Diaz was down the first time, saying 'it's over. . .he's done" which really shocked me, because he didn't seem done. He continued by saying that Diaz "doesn't know how to hold" so he would get stopped. Did he ever. Hat's off to both of these fighters and the largest paid gate for a boxing match EVER in the state of Texas sure got their money's worth. Diaz is a smart person and I hope that he learns from this.

Floyd, another big money fight out there for you. . . he's asking for it.

Aside from experience and lateral movements one thing that is frustratingly missing in Diaz is punching power. Why frustrating? I think he has good form and technique but is it only me that thinks he is small for 135? I think if he tries to lose some weight and those fats he can easily make 130 or maybe even 126! in that division his 'power' would definitely be felt and he may even hit faster. When this happens I think we can see the best of him. Obviously, the guy has a lot of potential and badly needs to work it out.

Superb fight. Just watched it without knowing the result.

Diaz set the pace early and made Marquez fight his fight. The mid rounds and Marquez clawed his way back into the fight from a scoring perspective. Both cut and both through a high number of punches through-out.

Diaz slowed as the fight wore on and Marquez precision with the body shots and the uppercut prevailed. Stunning 4 punch combo led to the 1st knockdown in round 9, Diaz beat the count but a bodyshot and vicious uppercut put him down again and out.

Both fighters showed why they are true World class with Marquez once again confirming his greatness by fighting Diaz's fight and prevailing.

JMM is definitely a surgeon, he throws accurate punches with pop from all angles....

I was originally rooting for JMM but as the fight went back and forth I told myself I dont even care who wins..........

I did keep thinking to myself JMM was landing the cleaner shots even in the first 5 rounds......I thought if Diaz doesnt tighten up his defense he cant keep taking them shots......

Also, as soon as Diaz was cut I had a bad feeling it was going to quickly deteriorate for Diaz......

Even though JMM was cut first it is really not even a worry, I mean Pac busted him up in the first roundof the first fight and he came roaring back......Just shows how some fighters handle cuts/knockdowns better than others....
