Hatton does have excellent timing though and his handspeed isn't too shabby. Malignaggi is no slouch and Hatton hit him whenever he wanted to. Malignaggi became the huggy man in that fight and I wonder if Manny might need to resort to the same kind of behaviour once his chin is checked.

Hatton WILL catch Manny and he will hit him hard. Repeatedly. Manny probably won't get stuck on the ropes as much as Hatton would like, but Hatton doesn't rely on that. He will use his movement and extremely good footwork to close the gap and land. I look at fights like the Malignaggi one and see a fight fought mainly in the centre of the ring, Hatton gets the job done there as well.
You can't compare Pacquiao's speed to that of Maligfaggi...

Statement: Ricky Hatton was asked repeatedly how he could expect to cope with Pacquiao’s now-legendary speed and each time he had the same answer: “They said the same thing about Paulie Malignaggi, how he was too quick for me and how he was going to outbox me. And look what happened in that fight.”

Where he went wrong: Many experts did favor Malignaggi in their November fight, in which Hatton won by 11th-round TKO. Hatton’s mistake is equating Malignaggi in any way to Pacquiao. Malignaggi is a fairly quick-handed, capable fighter. However, one thing opponents often say after fighting Pacquiao for the first time is they underestimated his amazing hand speed, not to mention his foot speed. And Pacquaio’s not just a capable fighter; he’s a great fighter, perhaps one of the best ever. Like so many before him, Hatton might be very surprised on May 2.

You are right in that Malignaggi is just one fighter and Manny is a different beast. One who can punch hard and fast, with both hands too. Pac has excellent hand speed and footwork. But let's not forget that it was only a year ago that Marquez was giving Manny all he could handle and that was at 130.

Pac has risen a lot in this past year and though the Oscar win was a surprise, it was abundantly clear that all was not well with Oscar. The Forbes fight also showed obvious signs of decay. Don't underestimate Ricky Hatton. He surprises people with his speed and power too. Looking at footage of him training, I am very impressed with how things are looking. It isn't about burning down for once, he is working on those skills, getting that head moving and the combinations flowing. Hatton's skills are underrated IMO, and that has been partly because he himself has sometimes forgotten to apply the method. The method is right back at the heart of things again now, and I like what I'm seeing. I'm optimistic.

A year can really make a big difference... A year ago, many said PAC has no chance against Hatton but now, PAC is heavy favorite to smash Hatton...

Hatton surprises a lot of boxers with his speed but Pacquiao is the more experienced boxer here and been into many fights that probably he has seen already almost all fighting style from 106 lbs. to 147 lbs... Pacquiao can't be surprised anymore, he has seen them all... More likely it will be PAC surprising the lesser experienced Hatton...

I second that miles. however I see a similar problem for Hatton but more mental. Hatton lost some of his confidence with that loss to Floyd Jr. and he doubts the very skills that made him champion at 140 and gets Floyd Sr. to work on adding new skills. There is no trainer that can change Hatton into a different fighter. His new found boxing skills are in the same class as his inside boxing skills. We saw what they were working on in that fight against Malignaggi and we also saw the Ricky of old when he got his full confidence back walk right through Malignaggi. That may well have been his game plan but if it wasn't this fight ain't going the distance.

In that year Pac has lost to Marquez (IMO), gone up to 135 and fought the weakest of the belt holders and then fought the biggest name in world boxing at the most opportune moment possible. It's amazing that Pac is heavy favourite to beat Hatton at 140. Truly mindblowing in fact!

Any boxing fan knows that the betting odds do not tell us everything.

I don't think experience is the difference here at all. Both fighters are extremely seasoned and have been around a long time. If we are to talk about experience it is perhaps in Hattons favour as he knows the score at 140 and beaten live bodies there. I have to laugh when I hear the name of David Diaz as a comparable fighter by which to weigh up Ricky Hattons chances against Manny (which is something I have read too many times). It's a totally different league.

You write off Hatton too easily and that's your call. Manny is a tough one to handle with those quick hands, but if Hatton has his timing down then Pacs legs will be turning to jelly.

I really saw issues with confidence in the Lazcano fight. Hatton won pretty much every round, but there was something in his fighting that wasn't there. It was almost as though he was going throught the motions. I was a bit shocked that he decided to let Billy Graham go, but hindsight suggests that this was one of the most brilliant moves Hatton could make. He looked much better against Malignaggi and seemed to be brimming with confidence from the second round on. The same attitude seems to have carried on through into this camp and Hatton really seems revitalised. He seems to be relishing this opportunity and is making all the right moves.

I have respect for Hatton being "the man at 140" but let's not forget PAC was former lineal champ at 112, 126 and 130... For Ricky's one house, PAC got 3 houses... Some rankings organization even this early already installed PAC as "the man at 140"...

Maybe it's worthwhile to mention also that PAC owned the current man at 135...

I have nothing but respect for Manny Pac and all he has achieved at the lower weights. Beating a prime Barrera the way he did was nothing short of amazing. And Hatton has won titles in two weight classes. He has stepped up to WW, and Collazo fought the fight of his life against Hatton. It was a close fight but I think Hatton nudged it. Hatton makes 140 easily enough and is right to stay there though. It's not a competition where its about whoever can jump the most weights.

Manny owned JMM? That's news to me and many others.

Hatton should be proud of his 2 division titles tho PAC much very proud with his 5 division titles aside from the 3 lineal titles...

PAC owning the current man at 135 is really worthwhile mentioning since many didn't knew it...

Hatton should be very proud of beating Collazo. I have a sneaky suspicion that Collazo is not even a human being and is in fact an alien from the planet Zog. He masquerades as a boxer, but that tattoo work is actually set in the style of an ancient alien race that came to earth many thousands of years ago. Collazo doesn't have human teeth either. Most definitely an alien in my humble opinion. So, that makes Hattons win all the more remarkable. Mosley had an easy time with Collazo because Mosley is quite obviously not a human either.

Back to reality. I don't think anybody owned anybody in either of the Marquez fights. They were extremely close fights and that is why most boxing fans would like to see a third fight. Pac is fighting the likes of DLH and Hatton because they bring the money, if Manny's heart was in the right place he would be settling things with Marquez right now. Unfortunately, he is going with his head and straight to the wallet. Most fighters would do the same, so that's no dig at Manny. But a third Marquez fight is what most boxing fans want more than anything because we all know how inconclusive the previous two fights were.

Collazo is a good win by Hatton despite being buzzed and wobbled in the last round of that fight and having difficulties of Collazo's southpaw stance...

Regarding JMM, I don't want to discuss his fights with PAC anymore... We will just refer it to the record books...

PAC owning the current man at 135 is really worthwhile mentioning since many didn't knew it...

Hatton possibly took Collazo a little lightly as well. The southpaw stance is something Hatton has always struggled to look good against. But against Manny I don't think there can be any excuses. We all know exactly what Pac brings to the table in terms of his style.

JMM and the record books. Tsk tsk.

Ricky had five week's prep for moving up in weight for Collazo, as Lacanzo pulled out of their planned match up, Ricky was eating all the wrong thing's knowing he had a few pounds to play with, its Hatton's own fault that he ran out of gas in the last couple of rounds, after that Ricky dumped the fried breakfasts on the day of a fight. With the new team in you can see Rick's taking a much more professional approach in between fights, hell he was even working out on the family cruise this time around and looks in better nick this far out than Ive ever seen him in before.
