I'm really surprised by this. I'm by no means a fan of Froch, but if nothing else he's a very exciting fighter. Britain has always struck me as being a country that is happy to support its boxers, and in particular its champions.

there's no way this won't be on UK tv come fight night - no way.

For argument's sake let's just say it isn't shown back in the UK then it will just highlight everything what's wrong with the sport and the lack of mainstream TV exposure.

Note: This is not to derail this thread or to bring some other boxer to the topic...

Maybe boxing needs a shot in the arm... Any mainstream exposure, be it on mainstream news magazine or mainstream TV I think will help boxing...

Froch Plans To Down Taylor For TV Network Revenge - Boxing News

Give Froch his credit, like he says in that article, he probably could have fought a no-name in Nottingham and received domestic television coverage, but as his first title defense he chose to travel as an underdog to the US to fight a tough opponent. He's doing a lot more than Kessler is these days.

    Exactly.

Whether or not people like Froch he should be praised for taking this path. If he loses he will get slaughtered from all sides.

Taylor is a big step up for Froch and I give him credit for taking the fight. However, he has implied that he wants to be remembered in the same light as other great British champs so this is a fight he needs in order to attain that kind of recognition. He's in his early 30s, so I can't imagine he has a ton of time left in the sport and as such taking an easy fight in his hometown would do nothing to secure him big paydays and the accolades he seems to lust after.

If he beats Taylor, the 3rd best SMW in the world, I will give him all kinds of credit. Like you said, even if he's very competitive in defeat he deserves to be commended.

I don't think he should be derided even if he does get blown out. True, he runs his mouth and that has made him unpopular, but many fighters do so. Even if he does get starched by Taylor or completely outclassed, I'll still give him respect for taking the step up in competition and defending his belt against a world-class opponent. I still don't like Froch and I'll be cheering for Taylor to beat him, but I don't really see how he can be looked down upon for losing this fight.

    LOL

I mean whats the mighty " CARL FROCH " goona say now!! I hate the guys attitude, but he is exciting to watch, i cant wait for the fight, it is quite embarrasing if our only current World Champ is not on any channel in a big fight in the States, sort of says how popular and known Carl Froch is!!

Setanta will most definitely pick this up, I think Hennessy overestimated how much Froch was worth & messed it up. If not Setanta it might end up on ITV4, which would say a lot. But realistically, Setanta will pick it up they always do, they're probably just waiting for Hennessy to drop his demands. I'm hoping that Setanta gets the Premiership rights away from Sky as that also gives em more money towards buying big boxing fights.

ITV said a long time ago they can't afford to show fights in the early hours.

If Froch had been regular on Sky or Setanta i'm sure it wouldn't have been an issue

Premiership rights are split into six packages. Setanta used to have two, Sky had the other four. But in the latest auction Setanta lost one, so they're now on really shaky financial ground and don't have a lot of money to spend.

Yeah, I know how it works, but the Premier League are trying to push for all 6 to be with Sky (this won't happen as it violates EU law of competition rights). Hopefully Setanta will find a way to get the other package, and make a bit more money. They should also look to invest in something like Italian football to bring other viewers in, as the German & Portuguese leagues just ain't doin it
