There really isn't a debate here. Plain and simple, Cotto deserves the hype, based on his style of fighting (brutal body puncher, non biatch who does not hold) and his level of opponents. He will soon step into the ring vs. Clottey, arguably the most avoided fighter in boxing today. What more do you want from Cotto? Whether some fans on this forum over-like Cotto, the guy gives boxing fans what they want (KO's and good, entertaining fights). I don't see what the problem is, to be honest. I mean, clearly Margarito loaded his gloves in the fight with Cotto (check out Margarito's gloves hand wraps after the fight). And Cotto basically did not use that as an excuse for the loss!! He doesn't trash talk, either. Come on!! What's not to like? Boxing needs more like Cotto.

i suspect he did but there isn't any neither will there ever be any proof unless Margarito or his trainer speak up and admit it

That is a laughable comment and it lacks logic. There is plenty of proof-the commission investigated the wraps (scientifically, no less) and made the ruling. Rarely do criminals admit their crimes. Some criminals admit to things crimes they never committed. That is why we have impartial (usually) jurys, grand jurys, and commissions that analyze evidence. But I don't want to beat a dead horse. I am simply pointing out the "terrible" lack of logic in your comment not debating whether margarito used illegal wraps. That has already been discussed ad nauseum.

yea theres proof he tried to use them against Mosley not Cotto, they don't have a time machine to check what fights he did and didn't use them in, the rest aside from the Mosley fight would just be speculation, no lack of logic it's just common sense

Margarito will never admit it. He'd rather swim in a lake of fire after life.

    ...him and OJ Simpson.

that's for sure, but i'm just trying to say that that's the only real way to prove his gloves were loaded in any other fight other than the Mosley fight, i mean i think he might of done it in others but there's no way to prove it, it would just be speculation nothing else

Well anyone can have a go at it but there is no proof besides this fight that Margarito has done it before it is just speculation and why bother. Because even you look at all his fights some times he knocks someone out or sometimes he looks like he does not even hit hard it varies some.

Eventhough he was cleared from it (whatever "clear" means) I have my doubts now from his past victories. But still, loaded or not, how can we explain the fact that he took Cotto's punches as if he was being hit by pillows? Cotto threw vicious uppercuts, killer hooks, powerful straights, etc. And Margarito kept walking forward as if he was taking a walk in the park. Could this mean he put plaster in his face? Anybody in their right mind who was cheating wouldn't be parading in the ring lifting his fists and wraps all over the place in plain view of cameras, public, etc., right? It would make more sense for him to keep them covered and leave the ring as soon as possible.

    TitoFan,
You're right, Cotto faced guys with great records but then again, who did these guys beat? Take for example, Demetrio Ceballos. Pretty good boxer with a high percentage of KOs but also a high percentage of losses by KO. His opponents, same thing. I look at Carlos Maussa who has a nice looking record with lots of KOs but let's see who he fought before he lost to Cotto: Resto, Cruz, Lau, etc. Guys that didn't bring much to the ring really and had all this losses. Abdulaev fighting Cotto with barely 13 fights under his belt who beat guys like Godoy who has no punching power threat and a not so convincing resume. Abdulaev also beat Feliciano who had all these loses by KO. Also beat Leondraliu who's record is quite sad. Ricardo Torres was quite a challenge to Cotto who somehow got lucky that the ref didn't stop the fight. Sure, Cotto came back and took care of business but before Torres faced Cotto he beat guys like Vazquez, Villalobos, Esquivia (all 7 losses by KO), etc. Who's records and quality of opposition are not top-notch. Still most of the guys in Cotto's resume have managed to rock him, almost KO/TKO him, cut him, bruise him, etc. Imagine when he starts facing young big names in their top prime. Would he be another Fernando Vargas who lost to young big names in their prime? Well, let's wait and see. There are lots of exciting fights along the road.

I could go like that with other guys Cotto faced. I am not saying either that Cotto gets lucky, of course not. You look at his style, combinations, etc. And know that he has the right tools to give us good fights and deserves the big paycheks. It's just that his resume doesn't do it for me.

Cottos already past testing time, he's already proven himself, Abdulaev beat Cotto in the olympics and was the favorite going into the pro fight, Cotto beat him easily, guys like Maussa, Torres, etc. didn't have much on their record before they fought Cotto but look what they have done afterwards, both won titles at 140, one knocked out Vivian Harris who was still considered came when Witter beat him, and the other KO'd Kendall Holt, who is STILL a big player in the division

you shouldn't be laughin so much cause at least it was against a fighter who was thought to be game and now under suspicion of using illegal wraps, not brutally against an old fighter who was very much passed it like your man Haye

I find it comical you say how I love David Haye...yet your lame ass brings Haye up. What has Haye got to do with this ?

and you'd be the first in line to watch David Haye's nude calender shoot, you'd probably volunteer to hold his fire hose if he was doing a firefighter shot

    3-0

and i know you're gonna try and blast me with some bullshit diss about Morales, but the only difference is Erik is a legend and Haye is about to get KTFO AGAIN!!! lol

Again...what has Haye got to do with this ?...and please how is it 3 nil....your just repeating yourself and adding a few smileys run along now kid

Amazingly if he's used his handwraps his entire career then they obviously didn't help him against Paul Williams and he landed some big bombs on them as well. If they so devastatingly beat Cotto why couldn't they drop Paul Williams or put him on queer street? Unless we assume he has used them since Paul Williams beat him

exactly what i'm saying,, there is no proof he used them in any other fight, i'm not saying that there isn't the possibility, but the truth is no one will ever know unless he or his trainer actually admit to it, which we know they wont, there is no way anyone can say if he did or not cause there is no way of proving it
