Back flat on the mat, bruised face, etc. Would you encourage or discourage?
I don't have any kids but friends of mine do and I play fight with them all the time. I care about them so I suppose I qualify, if they were good at it and showed an interest I would definitely encourage them. Only if they were really non-athletic would I suggest it's not for them.

I am great friends with a couple who have a 12 year old boy and he is piss poor at everything that involves speed or timing, can't even kick a football straight (unless it's on his XBOX 360) he wanted to try it and I said he would have a tough time.

If my son wanted to box, 1st thing I'd do is ask for a DNA test to be done. Then, if the results were positive he was spawned from my super sperm, I'd tell him to go ahead and box, bye, get outta' my life.

I would be cool with it. I wish I was aware of boxing when I was 10 years old. I think I was probably busy playing with Barbie and Ken or something of that ilk. Or else playing football.

No doubt.Anything that could encourage him, keep him grounded & active in body and mind.I'd rather have him training-learning-experiencing with me in his ear rather than knocking around in the streets.Have always looked at Boxing as a metaphor for lifes trials and tribulations, one day your on top of the world and the next not so much, and vice-versa.Now....clearly if the little man progresses but just did not have it...was in there just to play a tough guy and "kick someones ass" but was getting knocked around....loosing interest, and school-career were suffering, thats the point at which pops has to step in and be a father.

Don't become one of these loon parents that tries to live vicariously through the child.....the mom entering the 4 year old daughter in beauty pageants, wearing more make-up than a Geisha and hair straight out of the 80's....or these over bearing Dads loosing his mind and yelling, screaming and berating his kid from the sidelines of a little league game for dropping the ball .Let them have fun most importantly.

It's a little bit freaky, but he/she/it has astounding footwork.

In fact it looks a little how I imagine Hatton to look when he starts training for a fight. Huge body mass and small arms flailing about. Impressive, but very scary to behold.
