Default Why people won't hate on Miguel Cotto for fighting Manny Pacquiao

Despite the size disparity people will be perfectly fine with this fight because
    1) Pacquiao fans have made people hate him.
    2) Cotto isn't Mayweather.

I love the hypocritical nature of boxing.

Who is hating on Mayweather for taking a hypothetical fight with Pacquiao? It's the most in demand fight in the entire sport.

Have you heard anyone talking about the Mayweather-Marquez fight? All they talk about is why isn't he fighting Pacquiao who isn't he facing Mosley or Cotto.

Well Cotto has Mosley, Berto, P. Williams, maybe even Mayweather, but he accepts a fight from the smaller Pacquiao.

The point I am making is that in both cases the Mayweather-Marquez and the Pacquiao-Cotto fight, the best fighter will win no because of size, but because of skill and natural ability.

Cotto has already fought Mosely, Margarito, and Clottey; three of the top five fighters in his division. No one will trash him for fighting Pacquiao because he's fought the rest of the division already. Mayweather hasn't fought even one of the top five welterweights.

Other than Freddie Roach who questioned why PBF didn't wait until after the Pacquiao fight to choose his next fight, no one talks about why Mayweather isn't fighting Pacquiao now, only why Mayweather won't fight a top five welterweight.

Baldomir was the unified champion when Mayweather beat him, and Judah was the unified champ right before Baldomir beat him, and he was in the top 5 when he faced floyd.

Also who is coming off the two year layoff? Can someone refresh my memory about how JMM-Pacman I and II went? Did Marquez not stand his own against Pacquiao, and clearly showed he is in the very highest caliber of fighters? Isn't it Cotto and not Mayweather that is a natural welterweight? Isn't Cotto and not Mayweather who actually uses size to his advantage?

Well because Mayweather has not fought Cotto, Mosley or Margarito and lets no forget about the likes of Clotty and Williams either. Stop all this hes not a welterweight he not making it for any other division. And he chose to go up to the weight so all the crap he gets it is his fault.

This confused me at first, I am tired as hell.

Ok looking at Taeth's last post, people hold Mayweather to a higher standard. Some people will say this is wrong, I don't think it is, he's thought of by most, or at least was, as the best fighter in the world. Cotto isn't. I hold Manny to a higher standard than Cotto too as do most people.

Second, in this case the little guy is actually favored, Floyd is seen as having a more winnable fight than Cotto. People taking perceived harder fights are given more credit. Boxing fans tend not to believe somebody can do something (for example, fight at a higher weight class, in JMM's case a much higher weight class) until they've done it, JMM hasn't, Manny has. There are other reasons too, one being JMM is older than Manny, had some rough moments in his last fight, etc.

    1. No, it's not people hating PAC because of his fans (actually PAC fans are people who loves to have fun all the time), IMO it's more of people believing PAC has a chance to defeat Cotto even at 147...

    2. Very true... Cotto isn't PBF just like PBF isn't Cotto...

Now, let's try to switch opponents and let's see what happens...

Cotto fighting JMM, do you hate Cotto for taking on the smaller JMM?

PBF fighting PAC at 143, do you hate PBF for letting PAC climb to 143 instead of fighting PAC at 140?

    This could be some fun...

no people have a problem with him going up and down the weights, wanting catch-weights, and refusing to move up and fight someone below a weight he has previously fought at.

Pacster vs Floyd and Pacster vs Cotto are BOTH great fights.

I doubt people will hate on Cotto considering Pacster will be favourite to beat him, whereas Floyd will be favourite to beat Pacster.

    Pacster KO 6 Cotto. Fact.
    Pacster SD Floyd. Fact.

Pacster definitely KO's Cotto. You see Cotto the weekend? He will look like he's fighting in treacle compared to Pacster. Pacster will beat him to a pulp inside 6. Fact.

To be fair against Pacman I don't think he's ever fought at a catch weight in any of his fights yet. And I believe it should be that way. And some may say what about the Oscar fight? As I've stated before it's unreasonable to have the guy jump 3 weight classes to fight Oscar from 135 so they met at the 147 limit.

Very well said... PAC never fought at catchweight before... The Hoya "catchweight" is very well justified since the 2 boxers being 3 divisions apart... Why not give PAC one catchweight fight before he retires?? ...

    .
Pac hasn't fought anyone at a catchweight because no one is quick to take that boobytrap. Everyone saw what the catchweight did to DLH. And lets keep it real. Pac has tried to get every welterweight at a catchweight. Roach even said he wouldn't let Pac fight any welterweight at 147 except PBF. I wonder why? The smallest welterweight is deemed a 147 pound fight and the bigger welterweights must drop below 147. They want them drained just like DLH. Its very tactical for them and very dangerous for the opponent. Although Mosley said he would agree to the catchweight and short money. I am curious why Pac and Roach didn't take Mosley up on his offer after he called their bluff. Must've deemed it was still too dangerous.
