I use 12 ozs for bag and pad work and they are heavy enough for me. A lot of fighters in my gym use pucnhing mitts but I prefer the extra padding on my knuckles.

12 oz is good provided that your gyms bags aren't very hard. I go with the school of thought that 16 oz gloves under most circumstances lure you into feeling a false sense of security, especially when sparring. If your hands don't need them, then don't get them.

Mine are 14 oz, it's good for sparring and bag-work. Others may prefer to keep a separate pair of gloves for the bag and fpr sparring.

yep, im mainly looking at a pair for predominantly pad and bag work at the minute. Once i get into sparring i'll probably have to then re assess what i need in terms of pairs of gloves for each?

EDIT: also, the gym has a veriety of bags, although most of which i would class as firm - Hard...there are a couple of softer bags though.

First come, first serve. Try to get a softer bag if you can, and stay away from heavy bags filled with sand.

If you're gonna get another pair of gloves for sparring, I also recommend breaking them in first before you spar. That way you won't have to tense up to make a fist.

By the way, welcome to the forum.
