They should use anti-trust legislation to break up the banks, the medical-industrial complex and a bunch of other dangerous monopolies but they never will because their lobbyists own all the important legislators. A single payer system (the government) would save a huge amount over the current corporate socialist healthcare system. Eventually the budget situation will get so bad that the GOP will cave and agree to one but I'm not sure we're quite there yet. If Obama can at least get a public plan passed to compete with the private ones that'll be a good start.

And what will happen when Government runs healthcare Well that's simple, we'll pay into the system, Congress will use the money to fund other little projects they deem important, and then we'll have a bankrupted system that limits the ammount and quality of healthcare each of us will receive. And in the process the medical fields will become less competitive and we'll get lower quality doctors and nurses....that'll be really fun Kirkland

Why would I be considered "lucky" if this bill passes I already have insurance, AND I get to choose my Doctors! Healthcare isn't a RIGHT it's an option, a choice, and people choose to spend money on other things rather than pay for health insurance, it's not like the majority of people don't have the money to pay for health insurance, they just choose to spend it on other stuff...it's not my fault they don't think health insurance is important.

Ah, so the government can run a cheaper healthcare insurance system than the private sector can. It's good we both agree on that. but that's a feature Lyle, not a bug. Cheaper healthcare is what the US economy has to have otherwise it'll seize up.

You'll still be able to choose your doctors under the new system. You'll just have the option of changing to a government plan which will act exactly like your current insurer does, just charge you less and not refuse treatment when you need it. The government is not taking over the healthcare system, this is just untrue rubbish you're being fed by whatever media outlets you're watching. And if the government insurance option isn't eviscerated by lobbyists before it passes/in the future it'll lead to cheaper healthcare for all and prevent the US from going bankrupt in a decade or two.

My 2 cents on the whole thing:

Obama is not the messiah, nobody has the power to turn the tide over the very bad last decade for the US. To see him as a savior is plainly wrong, biaised and a blind assumption. He can just do his best and let's see how his best is. HOwever, if you let me chose between him, McCain (which campaign has been labeled as pure improvisation by most specialists for cause) and the greedy DLC monkey, Clinton, there is no choice possible. The savior? Sure no. THe best alternative? On paper, Most definitely. He's not perfect but did a few things he promised and to me, it's a good start:
- nobody from his cabinet is on the payroll of huge corporations
- Restablishing relation with europe and Canada, relation greatly wounded by the Bush-Cheney tandem.
- putting a limit to te wage of CEO from companies that receive government help to 500 000 instead of te many millions plus golden parachutes bonus.
- kept at least 2 republicans in place to work with the Democrats as he promised it
- Closing Guantanamo, one of te worst aberrations in the history of a country that has been built on liberty
- re-opening the ban on stem cell researches, one of the most important field of researches of the XXIst century.
- Repositioning the USA against the use of torture, which was mangled during the Bush era

To me, it is indeed a good start.

Thus said, Palin is one of the scarriest thing I've ever seen;

1) she supports the republican party... wearing the democrats scarf, after more than 10 years, can't you just make the difference between your elephant and a donkey? 2) She never had a passport and barely left Alaska. 3) A Lady who finds the way to spend 150 000 in luxury clothes during the worst modern economic situation the US ever face is the wrongest thing ever, especially when it is during the sole campaign and that it has been bought with money from tax payers; Republicans spent $150,000 on Sarah Palin's clothes - Times Online

So yeah, here's why I hate Pallin and why I think McCain wasn't the man for the task, especially after he confesses he chose her after a 15 minutes conversation. HOw can you make such an important decision for te nation after a MERE 15 minutes? George Bush should have done the same. If went out in a blaze of glory as a President that physically gave birth to a blessed baby boy it would have done wonders for his approval ratings and saved the country 4 plus years of shit.
