Mayweather fought COrrales who was basically a welterweight when they fought, and Mayweather was 136 coming into the ring. You are talking about fighting guys 40-50 pounds heavier, that is a totally different ball game. It wouldn't be because Mayweather would lose so much speed, Duran didn't. It would be because he is naturally way too small for Roy Jones Jr because ROy JOnes Jr himself is so fast, so skilled, etc. Put Floyd in with a guy like Kelly Pavlik it might be different. Its not the ability to put on muscle, but the right style to deal with bigger fighters that matter. As for the physiology lesson, maybe you should start reading up on it. Muscle doesn't slow you down, and it doesn't make you lose flexibility unless you are a body builder. People have different skeletal structures that allow their body to put on a certain amount of muscle and still function effectively. Mayweather has reached his bodies peak, but I guarantee he could beat the shit out of plenty of bigger guys. If people don't remember how well Cory Spinks did against Jermain Taylor then they should watch that fight again, but IMO he landed more than Jermain, and it was because he used his speed and boxing skills to nullify a lot of Jermain's advantages. Mayweather has done that his whole career Corrales, Castillo, Baldomir, Gatti, Baldomir, De La Hoya, Ndou all weighed 10+ pounds more than Mayweather coming into the ring and there was only one close fight in all those.

no thirty pounds of lean muscle won't slow you down, 30 pounds of bulk will.

Sorry to bump this thread which just got lost in 2 posters playing the 'who knows more about the circumference of Floyd's inner thigh' game, but I thought rather than post ANOTHER new thread about Mayweather, I'd post this up here.

It's basically Schaeffer explaining the ins & outs of the promotional contract on the weight & why Ellerbe & Haymon kept saying it was a welterweight fight.

Insider Notebook: Mayweather-Mosley Goal, Vazquez Plan - Boxing News

Also seems Berto-Mosley is close, which I'd be damn excited about, especially if the winner fought the Mayweather-Pac/Cotto winner. Hopefully this also manages to leave Margarito out in the cold & unable to make any major fights for himself. It's the least he deserves.

Oh & Izzy-Rafa IV seems close. Maybe I should have made a new thread

Think Mosley is still waaay to much for Berto.Great crossroads match and they need to just put Andre in deep and see what happens.I think they'll try to slide Tony in the mix.Rafa and Izzy should just let it be...move on with whats left and let that triology stand as one of the best ever.Yep... should have bumped previous threads

Thanks for the update, I was wondering if Mosley was gonna get back in the ring again any time soon. I know he only wants mega fights, but man gotta keep that ring rust off, between him and Hopkins they've only had 2 fights in the last year.
