The CONTRACTED weight was 147 with the stipulation that Mayweather would pay money for every pound he was over 144. So it wasn't mandatory.

Cotto is CONTRACTED to come in at 145 so he won't but if it wasn't mandatory he would.
Yeah but it was never mentioned until after the weigh in was it? But you already knew that.

Well if i am honest about it i would rather see a fighter come in over. Reason why is who wants to see a fight when the other guy is drained. I mean i never want to see what happen to Oscar Dela Hoya happen to anyone. Just pay the money and move on, he couldn't make the weight o well i guess. Thats half the reason i dont like catch weights, if Cotto can not make it health. Then i dont care if he comes in at a pound over, I dont care for either fighter Pac or Cotto. But i dont want to see a skelton come in like Dela Hoya did so a pound doesnt bother me that much i guess.

Yeah no one wants a replay of the Oscar fight, if he really can't make 145 in a healthy way I doubt he would have agreed.

Yea i understand Kell not saying no one should make weight. Just if they cant make the extra pound then dont do it and pay the money needed.

Miguel came in at 146 for the Clottey weigh-in, and I have to believe that he can take that one pound off safely, otherwise I don't think he would have agreed to it.

That is also why he started training camp earlier than normal, so that he can take it off safely, and not have to drain himself the last week before the fight. He also did not allow himself to gain alot of weight after the Clottey fight, because he didn't want to have to lose a lot of weight before the fight.

Actually the contracted weight for Marquez/Mayweather was 144, the weight didn't get changed until the day of the weigh-in when it became clear that he wouldn't make weight.

Here is all the details about what happened.

He should and I think he will. He's a professional and respects the sport.

If a fighter cannot will not make the weight,it should not be made regardless of status and names involved. No slight of hand gimmicks.

Well said Diane. I'm sick of hearing excuses for Mayweathers weight antics. He cheated, end of story. Even his supporters should have their eyebrows more than raised by the carry on that took place.

As for Cotto. Well, he should make the weight like he agreed to in the contract. A fighter should have honour in what they do and making weight is an important part of that. I always look at Cotto as a no bullshit kind of guy.

Cotto has honor, and is always professional, you can't say that about Mayweather. Cotto will honor the agreed upon weight, and make the 145.

think a couple of hundred Gs doesnt really matter to someone like floyd for not making weight where as cottos concerned he would be far more worried about how the loss of earnings would effect those around him.

Miguels getting screwed here we can all see it, the fight was signed and agreed and now half way into training theyre trying to change the boundary ropes. Cotto will make 143,144,145 if need be but i seriously fear he`ll have to sacrifice that odd meal a day before the weigh in which could be a vital factor in how this goes. Sounds stupid i know but boxers often resort to these measures to strip 2-3pounds away in the 24hours leading up to the fight!!

I say Cotto will honor the contract. and the major word there is Honor, and that can also be accompanied by the word Respect. Cotto is a different personality altogether compared to mayweather. Mayweather has respect for the size of his head alone, where as Cotto has respect for other fighters and the sport that is boxing so will, in my mind, not pick and choose what he weighs in at and will not be calling Bob Arum the day before the fight to try and change the contracted weight agreement....

Cotto has integrity and an honorable man. Don't confuse the Cotto's with the Mayweathers.

Cotto will come in at the agreed weight.
