Roach does it again. Despite the obvious difference in skill set, Henry is a perfect guy to spar with in preparation of Cotto.

The most discussed thing is his body attack, but it should also be noted that Henry works behind a great jab. If Cotto is to be victorious, he will have to work behind a jab. He will have to set up his body attack through his jab. Roach knows this and not only got a guy who could hurt a body (as lesser trainers would) but also got a guy who can hurt a body and throw a solid jab.

I have been reading how Manny has been getting hit too much in sparring, especially by Porter. I also read where Porter would not commit himself wholeheartedly to endorsing Manny in his fight against Cotto. Porter did not seem to be impressed by Manny's power (maybe because he is a junior middleweight), but definitely by his speed. I also read that Arum was a bit disappointed in Manny's sparring when he visited his camp recently. And Roach doesn't know what to predict. First Cotto will be a tough fight, then they are preparing for a 12 rounder, then Manny will knock him out, now back to being a tough fight. Could Roach et al be seeing trouble for Manny at the end of the tunnel? Is Roach perplexed as to how Manny is going to handle Cotto? 6 weeks and counting.

There were also reports that Mayweather wasn't doing well sparring either -.- a guy like Manny who doesn't have great defensive technique definitely needs time to develop his timing in order to be elusive, and that will come. Also Shawn Porter has really quick hands and he is a good boxer, I mean he beat Jacobs to go on the Olympic team.

I don't remember any reports that Mayweather was struggling in sparring, other than hurting his rib, which caused the first postponement of the fight. Perhaps you can enlighten me. Who was causing Floyd problems? Who reported those problems? Team Mayweather? The promoters? Reporters? Holla back.

Shawn Porter never made the Olympic team. He did beat Jacobs before in the amateurs though. I think Jacobs beat Porter twice though. Porter is the ideal choice for preparing for Cotto. I think Porter has more to offer than Cotto and Omar Henry is a lesser version of Cotto. So Pac does have the best preparation right now for Cotto. And it is common for a guy like Pac to be having hard times in sparring because that is the purpose. You want to pick a guy better and/or bigger so you push the contracted guy to the next level. Porter is a bigger, faster, stronger, and more aggressive version of Cotto. Roach didn't expect Pac to handle Porter, Roach knows Porter's very talented, he expected hard times and that is why he picked a guy such as Porter. Having a hard time against Porter doesn't mean a Cotto victory by no means. Porter only has lesser pro experience than Cotto. Porter as a fighter/sparring partner is not lesser than Cotto. Being able to deal with Porter before the fight is the ideal and is what will mean the most.

So i heard that Omar Henry will not be Pacquiao's sparring partner after all. Is this true?

I also heard Koncz (sp?) isn't too happy with Roach and said something to the effect of "I told Manny to dump Roach long ago".

Are there any truth in these stories, guys?

Shawn Porter was on the US 2008 team. Also Omar Henry could easily become as good as Cotto if not better depending on his chin. He has all the ability in the world, only time will tell.

As for Mayweather having difficulties in sparring, they were widely speculated, but Anthony Peterson allegedly got the better of Floyd when they sparred, also there were other rumours that Floyd wasn't looking very good in sparring, Freddie Roach among others brought this up.
